The Tigers have reportedly reached a $4 million bonus agreement on an international prospect of high regard named Kevin Sosa.  Apart from being able to handle mid-90s heat despite his youth, little is known about him, apart from his age.

He is 12.

That keeps the agreement un-official at least until he turns 16.  And the two parties — his family and the Tiger organization — have to live in trust and suspicion of each other until then.

Here is a picture of the agreeable parties.  It would be much more interesting if Kevin was the guy on the left, but I suspect he is the kid in the middle.

Yes, the fact that he's 12 (assuming he is 12) makes any agreement not just unofficial but unenforceable. So if he jumps on an offer of $5 mil that some other team makes on the eve of his 16th birthday (assuming all rules then are as they are now) taking it might make him a liar and a scoundrel in the eyes of the Tigers ... but it'll also make him a million dollars richer.

I'd guess that "agreement" has clauses that would protect the player (should he get injured before he turns 16) and the Tigers (should he sign elsewhere). If not, there should be.
