New York Mets Asking Price for Freddy Peralta: "Top 100 Prospect and More"

The New York Mets enter the deadline firmly in sell mode, with their focus centered on moving veteran pitching, particularly a starting pitcher who could provide rotation help for a contender. While their top trade chip carries the most value as a proven arm, recent inconsistency could limit the return New York is able to command. Beyond the starting pitching market, the Mets lack a deep pool of premium trade assets, leaving underperforming veterans and prospects who have seen their stock dip as the primary pieces available in negotiations.

Will Sammon of The Athletic is reporting that the New York Mets are asking for a "top 100 prospect and more" for starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. It will be interesting to see if a team is willing to pay that price for him considering his struggles this season.

Peralta, 30, is set to be a free agent at season's end. Despite looking like an ace with the Milwaukee Brewers, he has struggled with the Mets this year, posting a 4.99 ERA (4.47 FIP) with a career-low 12.7% strikeout-minus-walk (K-BB) rate.

I bet they can get someone who's in an organization's top hundred, but MLB top hundred may be a little optimistic. But who knows? There may be a team desperate enough.

Is anyone willing to volunteer to cross-check the top hundred list with the list of teams who are likely buyers this week?

I agree, no one is going to pay that for Peralta based on what he's been doing this season. Savant sliders don't tell the entire story, but...

And if we want to filter this on the players closest to the majors, based on the ETA column, it will be one of these. Based on what little I can glean from this data, I'd suggest Pedro Ramirez of the Cubs. Hopefully, however, the Mets will put more time into their analysis than I have.

The Athletic is reporting that Peralta is one of the pitchers that the Cubs are targeting. 

Maybe my long-lasting yearning for Pedro Ramirez, who I had never heard of until about an hour ago, will finally be satisfied. (He can be our Steve Henderson!)

He came up as a third baseman but that position is apparently blocked in Chicago so he's projected as a second baseman for the Cubs. Should he actually become a Met, both positions are reasonably open to him.

The versatile infield prospect has played in over 400 minor league games as a contact hitter with plus speed on the base paths. The 21-year-old switch-hitter has gained plenty of attention during his ascension, getting a Southern League All-Star nod and earning a slot with the big-league club’s 40-man roster.

Mike Sirota is the guy the Dodgers seem open to moving

They got him in a trade in 2024 with the Reds for Gavin Lux

Sirota is red smoking hot now at AA and a great time to make him available at top dollar. That would allow them to keep Zyhir Hope and Jorge DePaula

Note to Stearns, please don't overplay Peralta to dust

Supposedly, fans have been campaigning for him to use it, although there is no official reporting on what he uses.

He's from Mineola, and the last time I was there, it felt like it was still 1981, so who knows?

I think the answer to that is both.

Mineola replaced its Friendly's with a taco place, so it's definitely not 1981 anymore.  That, and a different family is living where my parents used to.

A top 100 prospect for Peralta is a stretch unless maybe he is injured

Stearns is very aware of whatever he brings in for Peralta will be compared to Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat. Granted those two haven't done much but still it has to weigh on Stearns
