Pretend Deadline Decision

You're the GM and Steve Cohen will fire you unless you trade either Ewing or Benge at the deadline. Return is the same (2 prospects and a shitty reliever). Who stays and who goes?

I'm glad I don't have to make that decision. I remember thinking that I'd keep Ike Davis and deal Lucas Duda. That wouldn't have worked out well.

My gut says keep Benge, but that's not an informed choice. I pretty much tuned out about a month ago.

I'm also on Team Trade Ewing. That's because he strikes me as a butthead.

In an ideal(istic) world, I'd trade neither, then wear my walking papers as a badge of honor while I submit to interviews by all New York news outlets , telling them what I was told to do.

But since I like to do exotic things, such as eat and pay my mortgage, I'd trade Benge. I think Ewing has the upside of positional flexibility ( he plays Inf and OF) and  has a higher upside..

But they'd better be two really f'n good prospects.

Based on a half season the answer should be keep Ewing ... but full-season choices are often wrong and smaller samples even more so.
