Freddy Hang'em high and often Peralta against Matt Boyd

At this point, the Mets might as well start planning for next year.  Trade the players they don't see as part of the teams future moving forward.  Unfortunately, there likely isn't much of value to trade, other than probably Peralta.  Vientos and Baty won't bring much as there value has plummeted in the past year.

Hopefully, the Mets play like a MLB team tonight, rather than a bad Little League team.  Six errors, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and at least two plays that could (or should) have been made, but clanked off gloves (Benge) or fell untouched (Baty & Semien).

I like that David Peterson is still listed as being among the Mets available relievers until this trade becomes official.

If and when it does, the Mets will b down to three starting pitchers on the roster, so get ready to see some unexpected dudes like Xzavion Curry on the mound in the coming weeks.

Somehow, Dansby Swanson is still in the nine-hole.

The Mets sure dragged their feet (understandably) posting today's lineup.  As far as they go, well, after Freddy Peralta's last start, his ERA is looking unsightly.  Un-savory.  Un-American.

More importantly, your new secondbaseman is ... Brett Baty?

Bo Bichette is back at third, and Ronny Mauricio at short.  Mo at short and Bichette at third was to be the preferred alignment after Francisco LIndor first went down, and it wasn't until Ronny followed him to the IL that the Mets conceded to return Bichette to short.

So, presumably because Francisco Lindor is not yet ready to go everyday — or possibly because he further strained his calf trying to let out an infield hit — that is the alignment they are returning to.

But, hey!  Soto back!

I don't usually keep track of these things the way a lot of youse guyz do, but when was the last time they wore their home whites? I'm not superstitious or anything, but if I had lost 23 straight (or whatever it is) I'd probably ditch the blue tops which they've been wearing a lot lately (both home and road) and tonight they've gone to the blacks.

The Mets are 7th highest in MLB in hitting into GiDPs. Stats like these are tough to judge sometimes because they lack context. One would really need to know the ratio between GiDPs and the total number of base/out situations in which it was possible to hit into one [1 - 0 - 0; 1 - 1 -0; 1 - 1 -1; 1 - 0 - 1; with 0 or 1 outs] and that data doesn't seem to be readily available. But, considering their low OBP/amount of baserunners, it means they certainly into more than their share.

Mets have been getting killed lately in giving up big hits with two outs and runners on.

So tonight they're the ones who  load the bases with two outs in the 3rd (foul out) and put two on with 2 outs in the 4th (weak grounder). Flip the script and we'd likely be down 4 or 5 (or 7) nothing.

And the Cubs get the first two-out run scoring hit on their first opportunity and now on their second as well while the Mets are oh-for-3 in those situations stranding six.

This kind of stuff is becoming so predictable that it's like the fix is in.
