I just had to post the Phils' top of the 9th in Washington from Tuesday night.

The Nats led by 2 and reliever Brad Lord K'd the first two hitters of the inning and was 2-2 on Trea Turner so the Phils were down to their last strike with bases empty.

But then: Single - 2R HR - Single - Single - 3R HR - Walk  <Paxton Schultz replaces Brad Lord> Single - 2-Run Double - Walk - RBI Single - and finally the 3rd out.

So the inning that started 8-6 Nats wound up 14 -9 Phils.

Sawx take second straight from Yanx at Fenway. They beat Schlittler 6-3 on Thursday and win 5-1 today.

Oh, and Gary cribbed the above Phils/Meets 9th inning stats and used it in today's game. We know you're reading here Gary, don't even try to deny it.

I think it was the oh so fair (as in Pretty Bobby Shaftoe) Washington pitching coach that I took an immediate dislike to when I saw him a few weeks ago

Are those for some specific threat or is that their normal Saturday exercise?

A Boston win this afternoon makes it three in a row for the last place Sawx over the 1st place Yanx by a cumulative score of 16 - 5 [6 - 3, 6- 1 , 4 - 1] . They'll finish the series tomorrow on -- SURPRISE!! -- the national Sunday Night game.

It's simply the way Washingtonians are living right now.

Cubs failed to challenge a borderline pitch on a 3-2 count and bases-loaded/no-outs in the bottom of the 10th (looked like a strike to me). Don't know what they were thinking (or not thinking. They were up 4-2 at the time but of course 4-3 after the walk ... and they got away with it anyway!! The Brewers followed the bases-loaded gift walk with a shallow foul-out to LF and a GiDP.

4-3 Cubs is your final. They took 2 of 3 from the Brews in this series.

Nats win, Marlins lose, Braves scoreless w/SFG in the 6th out on the left coast.

Just to put last week to bed here, I fell asleep prior to most of the Yanx/Sawx action which involved the Yanx scoring twice in top-9 to tie the game then two more in top-10. But that lead lasted just four batters as Boston in bottom 10 tallied an RBI Single - Double - Sac Fly - RBI Single for a three run 10th and a four game sweep.

The series knocked the Yanx out of 1st place but wasn't enough to lift Boston out of 5th.
