In my heart, I feel that Brozoban would have done better.

And every time I think Marte is over the hill, he at least does something with the bat.

And, at the presser, we were told the X-Rays on Soto's foot were negative. (Is that somehow redundant?)

Now - TAG - someone else please take over the IGT reins and lead them to victory.

I kinda liked the one-inning-for-Taylor move. Tell yuz why:

Mendy hoped that Taylor would get an AB or two in situations that he'd do ok in (needing a runner advanced on a groundball or bunt, or leading off an inning, or up with no one on and two outs), and thought that he could pinchhit Marte for him if he really needed a clutch double or the like, but it blew up in his face after an inning, so he decided to pull the trigger and PH Marte anyway (and take the heat for his "dumb" move.) I also liked using Acuna in CF in the ninth. Did Squirrel move back to RF? I didn't notice. His line looked like this if so: CF-RF-CF-RF.

I'll certainly say this — any issue I had with him going to Taylor only came up after Taylor was pinch-hit for. So whatever Mendoza didn't anticipate, I didn't either.

I'm not particularly sure I was aware Marte was available for outfield duty, so I can hide behind that, if I want to.

Yeah, the team has been kind of compromised by their commitment to gradually building up the workload of three of their starters to have them in tune for the stretch run. Manaea was seen clearly (and futilely) petitioning Mendoza for one more inning. I think he had retired 12 in a row when he was lifted.

Mendoza seems determined to keep most of his starters (Manaea, Senga, & to a lesser extent Holmes on a low pitch count) which causes the team to overwork an already short bullpen. He seem more concerned with protecting the starters from overwork at the expense of burning out the bullpen or relying on a revolving door series of AAA relievers to get through games. The starters should be able to go 6 innings (95-100) pitches when they are pitching well.

I wonder if this philosophy is mandated from above (i.e. Stearns).

I think he wants these arms to be as fresh as possible for October games. Of course, there may not be any October games, but there's a decent enough likelihood even if the Mets fail to win the division.

I don't know about "mandated," which suggests a one-way decision-making process, but yeah, I think we can be confident that this is the arrangement established and committed to broadly well before the game unfolded.
