Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 The Mets have had two six-game win streaks this season, and one seven. They are currently sitting on five, and they are not here to match their best showing, but exceed it.The Giants, as noted in yesterday's IGT, can pitch with anybody, but yesterday, they sent one of their best pitchers after the Mets, and the Mets sent him back early. Today, though, we see their very best as Robbie Ray matches up with his fellow NL All-Star lefthander David Peterson.Tension will mount. Drama will build. Anxiety will spike so high that we will need aviation lights attached to it in order to protect air traffic.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Marte with the hardest hit ball of the inning. Unfortunately, it was right at the Giants LF. The Mets did make Ray throw 26 innings to get through the 1st inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Catcher-triples are the best triples!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Peterson has been getting the right kind of defensive support.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Thus far, inning ending double-plays are Peterson's friend.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 The Mets keep fielding balls then throwing them in the general vicinity of first base and Alonso keep turning them into outs.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Keith keeps referencing Opening Day 1985 when his helmet kept falling over his eyes. That was the Gary Carter walkoff opening day.Keith went 3-5 and drove in two https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN198504090.shtmlthat day with the over-sized helmet.Cold, windy day.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Marte rips another hard shot, but this one isn't right at a defender. Mets on second and third with no outs.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Defensive flub by the Giants now bases loaded no outs.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Vientos strikes out swinging at a a backfoot slider that was 5-6" inside for the first out. Alvarez then grounds into a duble play to end the threat. Still no score.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 A lot of hits for a scoreless tie.

It isn't necessary for those following the game in real time, but it is really helpful when reading threads in posterity.

And cured cancer, diabetes and asthma. And then ran into a burning building to save three babies and two kittens from the inferno.

I often wasn't sure what was going on. Now that I watch a significant number of games, it is nice to be able to report on what is going on.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 I was at the Rockies-Orioles game tonight. Cedric Mullins, frequently mentioned as a potential Mets target, had a great diving catch and then a three-run homer. Then he got pulled from the game. I was hoping it was because he was traded to the Mets. But it probably had to do with the Orioles winning 15-0. Rockies are brutal. Game ended 18-0 with two hits.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 It's too bad he can't get here in time to prevent Taylor's next at-bat.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Peterson had to work hard, but he escapes the 5th without surrendering any runs.Soto - Alonso - Marte due up for the Mets. Time for the offense to get going.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Soto is going for 30/30 this year.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Marte with a third quality at bat this game. Need Baty to come through here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Devers is a delight here, figuring things out on the job.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Vientos with a 2 run double as the Mets finally get the big hit they need to knock Ray out of the game.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Damn, the Giants are on the ropes, but Taylor is up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Tyrone up with two on and two out and a chance to break the game open is a tough choice. You need his glove in a 2-1 game, but you need somebody to make it more than 2-1.Fortunately the pitcher is wild.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 It appears Daniel Vogelbach just took Nimmo's at-bat there.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2025 Posted July 26, 2025 Devers is an adventure at first base. The Giants would be smart to just DH him before he gets hurt out there.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 26, 2025 Author Posted July 26, 2025 Or ... whatever team he is playing for after the trade deadline might DH him. What a joy, though. He keeps smiling through gaffe after gaffe. He's a gaffer.Joey Lucchesi, meanwhile, doing Joey Lucchesi things.
