Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 That ball JUMPED off Alonso's bat.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Author Posted July 5, 2025 I was going to remark, after the Nimmo GS, that the post-HR dugout 'picture' had pretty much replaced the obligatory curtain call. But Pete just took a call following this one. But the fact that it's no longer automatic is, I think, a good thing.Getting Nimmo out just gave this kid a non-infinite ERA. OK it's 108.00, but at least it's a real number rather than an abstract.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Mauricio was already in the game. It might have been a good idea to pull McNiminy even if that ball didn't catch him square.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Don't let this get dicey. Get Diaz the day off
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Okay, no more screwing around, boys.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Pulling the Stanek Switch seems to have been less than wise.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Stanek bends but does not break.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Author Posted July 5, 2025 That was a LOT of pitches for a one run inning. But, in the end, it was just a one run inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Wow, I think Stanek threw more pitches today than Montas.I say 'Sit down, Diaz,' but there is a good chance Mendoza goes to him in the ninth.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Author Posted July 5, 2025 Multiple extra base hits ... non-solo HRs ... no walks issued until the 8th inning ... double digit runs scored[FIMG=400]https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/30a0cd936b6bef0ae1469b34ae7bebd565404f8f/0_16_1884_1129/master/1884.jpg?width=1900&dpr=1&s=none&crop=none[/FIMG]Who are those guys?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Should have gotten Pop going, men. This is not a trumpet situation.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Nice but would have preferred no Diaz.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Has a Met ever hit two grand slams in one week?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Satisfying win. Montas exceeded my expectations. It's possible Diaz wanted the work
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Look who we're playing, Amigos.Pitching?We don't need no steenking pitching.Arriba!Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Author Posted July 5, 2025 So that's two fair-to-good outings from Montas [5 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K] and [5.2 IP, 4 R, 5 H (2 long, 3 cheap), 0 BB, 2 K] sandwiched around one horrid one [4 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 2 HR] where he may or may not have been tipping his pitches. If a bunch of guys suddenly get healthy and return to early season form enough to push him out of the rotation, that's fine. But that's both unlikely and not going to happen anytime soon even if it actually does. So, until then, the kid stays in the picture.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Montas, Senga, Peterson, Manaea, Holmes. That's how they drew it up in the offseason. Canning was the 6th starter, Megill was #7 and Blackburn was #8. Didn't play out that way, at least so far. Holmes might have to skip a start or two down the line. But I think the 6 man rotation is on hold for now.Montas, Manaea and Senga will not have thrown that many innings so hopefully they're fresh late in the year.Let's see what Brandon Waddell brings to the table tomorrow.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Family obligations. So I didn't catch any of this game on TV. Results aside, how did Frankie look? Some chatter that he pitched better than his line.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Montas was fine. He was pitching with a lead most of the day and so was aggressive and everything was around the plate. The ball was carrying, and he gave up two solo homers, and if you are going to get tagged, that is the way to do it.He got in trouble in the sixth, leading to two runs, but that was on the back of an infield hit and a flare that dropped in.Probably not who we want starting the deciding game of a playoff series, but if you can be aggressive throwing to the Yankees, you can be aggressive with anybody.Sorry we did not get to see Garcia or Pop cut their Metly ribbons.
