Trying for two wins in a row, something we haven't seen 'round these parts since the days when the Rox, Sox, and Nats dominated our schedule.

But, as bad as things have gone recently, a win here at least somewhat rights the ship. We're still just 1/2 game out of 1st and a win tonight not

only gets a split but will leave us 10 full games ahead of the Braves despite losing five of seven. That's why you build up big leads, so you can

weather the tough spots.

Griffin Canning faces [CROSSOUT]Ryne Stanek[/CROSSOUT] Grant Holmes for the Braves.

Holmes (we missed a Holmes vs Homes matchup by one day!!) is easily mistaken for Stanek as both are thick built RH'ers who are former 1st round

draft picks (22nd & 29th) and both appear to go to (and/or avoid) the same barber.

Holmes, 29, didn't get a call to the majors until last year despite his draft status. He was traded once and then picked up by Atlanta two years

ago after being released by the A's but spent all of '23 in the minors.

This year: 15 starts, 4-6, 3.71, 1.22

PHI loses to HOU this afternoon, so reclaiming first is in the balance.

Also. This is the Griffin Canning revenge game. The Braves traded Soler for Canning then non-tendered him.

If Griffin has any sack he'll make them pay tonight.

Magic number down to 83.

They need to go 43-38 the rest of the way to be a 90-win club, which should be doable.

Mets should keep Brandon Waddell around for more than a game at a time. He's the kind of guy you use until he tanks and, with a 1.114 WHIP, he hasn't tanked yet.

Even though Soto's grounder wasn't fielded cleanly, I was certain that the Braves would get the out. I was certain even though the camera was focused on the Braves first baseman, Matt Olson, and I thus had no idea how close Soto had gotten to first base. I knew because the weak link in Soto's game is that he doesn't hustle out of the box. He just doesn't. And there's no way to sugarcoat it.

Austin Warren may still be in the dugout, but when he gets back to his locker, there are going to be about three kegs of Schaefer.
