A modest number of games on this Monday, but the Phils and Braves are among them and the road doesn't get easier for either struggling team although both will throw out their Ace hurler.



- Phils host the Cubbies for the first of three tonight: Matthew Boyd v Zack Wheeler



- the Braves travel to Milwaukee to take on the recently hot Brew Crew: Chris Sale v Aaron Civale





The other series of interest starting today is Dodgers/Padres with LAD holding on to a 1 game lead over SDP in the west (SFG also one back).

Pirates score 10 and have won 4 straight!

Phillies and Braves both pick up a half game on the idle Mets with wins yesterday. I guess they can't lose every game, much as I would prefer that

The Athletics may not have a home, but they sure seem to have found a heck of a rookie centerfielder.

Denzel Clarke was originally drafted by the Mets in 2018, but did not sign, and as 25-year-old rookie, it is unclear if his offense will catch up to his defense, but he is putting on a nightly show out there.



He hails from Toronto, Canada, and is a cousin of Josh and Bo Naylor — as well as some guy name Myles Naylor who I can only assume is the Gummo Marx of the act.

DET righty Jackson Jobe, let us introduce you to Thomas John

The 3rd overall pick in 2021 out of an Oklahoma HS, the 22 y/o goes out two relief appearances last season and 10 starts this year.

And, wait! He's getting Tommy John surgery and his name is Jobe?!? How did the Tigers not see this coming?

If there was just one organization that shied away from max velocity some of this could be avoided

- Yanx down 1-0 in the 9th in Fenway ... Judge hits a 1 out HR to tie

- Yanx wind up on the short end of two calls in top-10: an attempted SB of 3rd by the ghost runner (originally safe - overturned) and then a batted ball down RF line (called foul, call upheld)

- Boone ejected for arguing the non over-turn cuz he's arguing with the wrong guys. But of course all calls are supposed to go the Yanx way so he has the right to do that. LeMahieu ends the inning with a groundout then He's ejected for yapping at the same 1B ump

- Sox get a two-out hit off the Monster in bottom 10 to win 2-1



In the old days this would have gotten George to claim the league, and the umps, and the schedule makers, and the weather were all 'Anti-Yanqui'

Braves are now down to Colorado 5-1 in top-7 w/Rox still batting and ducks (2nd & 3rd) on the pond.

But the Braves still bat three more times so I fully expect them to win by the mercy rule before this one is over.

On the flip side, the Phils are up 10-2 on the Jays looking to complete the sweep.

Sox complete their sweep of the Yanx in a low scoring series at Fenway: 2-1 (10), 4-3, 2-0

Judge: 1/12 ... although that one was a game-tying HR to send the game into extras.



So while we're in the process of losing three games off our lead over the Phils, the 2nd place Rays have leap-frogged the Jays

over this weekend and are looking to gain three on the Yanx [-6.5 down to -3.5]

Devers traded to the Giants



Full trade: The San Francisco Giants are acquiring Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello, according to sources familiar with the deal.
