Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 And thus starts six games vs the two worst teams in MLB today and in the running for the two worst in the history of all time.ChiSox (17-36) come in for the first of three vs los Metsies, 4:10 start on Memorial Day afternoon.Looks like it'll be (brief) former NYM Adrian Houser vs Clay Holmes.Houser has made only one appearance this year, pitching six innings of 2-hit/shutout ball vs the M's last Tuesday
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 The Mets magic number is down to 112.Team ERA: Still just 2.85.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 They really need to focus here. Coming after the Dodgers and 3 consecutive national games, they have to avoid the letdown. Anything less than 5 of 6 is unacceptable and a sweep should be the realistic goal.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 The White Sox have won three of their last four while scoring 20 runsThey have some sneaky good young arms

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 It is encouraging to see Nimmo in the second position in the batting order. Now let us hope that he remembers who he is.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 I'm guessing Nimmo probably feels much much betterHe will go yard today

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Mets hitters making Adrian Houser look like a Cy Young Candidate.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Bases loaded and Butto coming in , squeaky bum time , lads
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Holmes coming out after a laborious, but successful, 5 & 2/3 innings. Holmes seemd to get squeezed by the home plate ump on that last walk. Butto coming in with bases loaded.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 okay, Butto puts an end to the threat. Mets down 1-0 going to the home half of the 6th.Time for Houser to turn back to a pumpkin.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 Butto saves the game from going all pear-shaped.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 With one hit allowed and cero walks through 73 pitches, that pumpkin may still have some seeds.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 Just weak grounder after weak grounder, and often on first pitch/early in the count.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 Is this the first time for the poppy on the uni for Memorial Day? Both teams are wearing the same one so I assume this is a league-wide deal.I tend to think of the poppy symbol as more an English (and therefore also Canadian) tradition for 'Remembrance (Veterans) Day' but not somuch an American thing.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 There is also chasing that knuckle curve changeup with two strikes.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Rode the bike right by Cyprus Hills cemetery today.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Starting to get a bad feeling about this game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 We have to rename PFP, Pitcher's Fielding Practice, into 'Pete's Fielding Practice' cuz he needs the work on the old 3-1 a lot more than the staff does.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 The good news is that the defense has kept this to just a one run game despite two hits and [CROSSOUT]no[/CROSSOUT] walks, now one.The ChiSox only have four hits (+ two walks) but could have seven or eight and we'd be down by three or more.

I used to see them on the main road near my dad's house in Newberg and have seen them for years in front of the supermarket in our town. Of course, they are asking for donations to various Vet's causes. They did it on Memorial Day and Veteran's Day.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Author Posted May 26, 2025 The pattern continues: two on/nobody out - weak grounder, weak grounder, semi-intentional walk, K-looking.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Two innings to push one sucker across the plate against a team chasing history for badness.SO do-able. So hard to see as do-able.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Slater looks like the sex criminal on the loose in a disaster movie, or the Navy Seal who gets the bends and goes nuts in The Abyss.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Well, that was a Nastillo slider to get us to the bottom of the eighth.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 This is it. The crossroads of this game.
