Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 The athletic Ben Johnson
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 (edited) WilliamsOne more batch today. Continuing the common-surname theme, can you name the five Mets with the surname "Williams"?1. Charlie Williams, 19712. Mason Williams, 20213. Trevor Williams, 2021-20224. Dave Williams, 2006-20075. Gerald Williams, 2004-2005 Edited April 29, 2025 by Guest
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 Not Jett, not yet.So let's go with Charlie.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 Trevor Williams is correct!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 "Dave" Williams, rotund swingman
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 Dave Williams is correct! I thought he'd be the last one guessed.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I remembered Trevor Williams but not his first name. Virtually no memory of Mason Williams. Was there an Alex Williams? Slight relief pitcher of recent vintage?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 Tennessee and Alex are incorrect, though I understand the confusion on both. Mason was a top prospect once who never really got a fair shake from anyone. When he played he was decent (.286 avg. from 2015-2019), but big league teams barely used him.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I was thinking of Alex Young. I suppose that's a future installment of this quiz
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2025 Author Posted April 29, 2025 I'm sure the Youngs will be coming down the line eventually.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Author Posted April 30, 2025 (edited) Gerald it is! Chris is currently in the Mets system, but has yet to play for them. Moving down the list...If it's Brown, we're Flushing it down (the Brown--Flushing wordplay was as lot harder to come up with than I thought it would be)Brown is the fourth-most common surname in the USA, but only four Browns have ever played for the Mets. Can you name them?1. Emil Brown, 2009.2. Kevin Brown, 1990.3. Andrew Brown, 2013-2014. 4. Leon Brown, 1976. Edited April 30, 2025 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Kevin. Not that Kevin but the other Kevin.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Andrew Brown[FIMG=555]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54487629428_946a558dd4_h.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=555]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54487718615_0a8abfaefb_h.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=555]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54487376141_b4e932d58a_h.jpg[/FIMG][media=youtube]SAuqQr5YtjY[/media][media=youtube]y7rFYbMhcG8[/media][media=youtube]OK4_fDHv-SQ[/media][FIMG=366]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54487661948_6e394c807e_h.jpg[/FIMG]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Quick work of the Brown squad. My main Gerald Williams memories are him getting called up the day after the Cameron/Beltran collision, and him folding up and quitting on a catch before hitting the wall when Pedro Martinez had a no-hitter going.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 I had remembered Kevin Brown (the Mets pitcher) mostly for him not being the Kevin Brown (the Yankees/Rangers/Padres pitcher who won 200+ games and also imploded against Boston in the playoffs as a MFY) and for being the more 'brown' of the Kevin Browns.Andrew Brown? I got nothing
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Downtown Andrew Brown.Reserve outfielder who had some power, discarded too quickly.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2025 Author Posted April 30, 2025 (edited) Emil, Leon, Kevin and Andrew are all correct!Emil was one of those random names thrown out there during that injury-ravaged 2009. I remember Andrew was clumped in with Mike Baxter a lot. That was quick! So quick we'll do one more, even though I was going to limit them to one per day. Mr. Jones and MeCan you name the eight "Jones" in Mets history?1. Chris Jones, 1995-19962. Cleon Jones, 1963 & 1965-19753. Randy Jones, 1981-19824. Sherman Jones, 1962 5. Bobby J. Jones, 1993-20006. Bobby M. Jones, 2000 & 20027. Ross Jones, 19848. Barry Jones, 1992 Edited April 30, 2025 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 30, 2025 Posted April 30, 2025 Andrew Brown had a big walkoff hit early in his Mets tenure.[FIMG=700]https://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=8283&font=1[/FIMG]
