Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 22, 2025 Posted April 22, 2025 Each win by the Mets means the team makes a generous donation to The Katz Institute for Women's Health, and Katz has had a really good six days.Tomorrow they try to go from "really good" to "perfect" with a chance to sweep the homestand and put a real crimp in the aspirations of the defending division champs. David Peterson is back on the mound against Zack Wheeler, whose heart just hasn't been in the right place the last few years.I am starting to think that playoff victory was no fluke.https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.pinimg.com%2Foriginals%2F0c%2F12%2F6b%2F0c126bf7e1e7c1aebbac3ccea36814fb.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=42fcad288f27c86d69ab902d84e8f2399bc1d690d63dd87812aa8553d62e02d1>

Let us now ponder whether the outcome of one single, solitary, lone baseball game between two pretty good teams could ever be a fluke. Or not a fluke.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 3.73 ERA vs. 3.27 ERA.Poor Phillies are trying to avoid the sweep and have to go into the game with a pitching disadvantage.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 (edited) You'd rather have David Peterson instead of Zack Wheeler? Are we suddenly in the Bizarro universe? Edited April 23, 2025 by Guest
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 Phillies have a shitload of talent but they look like they might be having a fire-the-manager year.

It's those unbeatable Mets, Lefty, who are on track, or on pace to win about 145 games this year. If not for having had to play the unbeatable Mets, Lefty, the Phils would be four games over .500 and on pace or on track to win 96 games, good for first place in just about any season but this one where the Mets, Lefty, are on track to win 188 games. Did I say 188 games? Check back here in 30 seconds. I might have to update that figure.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 Wheeler's had three good starts out of five: 4 ER, 10 H, over 20 innings combined. But the two others were kind of rough, particularly by his standards: 9 ER on 15 H in 11.1 innings combined Of course the competition may have had something to do with that. Good games = WAS, COL, MIA; Bad games = ATL, StL
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2025 Posted April 23, 2025 If he doesn't have a bad game we can just wait till they go to the bullpen and beat them

Good games = WAS, COL, MIA; Bad games = ATL, StLHe's given up exactly one HR in each of his five games so far, but only 6 BB in five games. In his two "bad" games he's struck out only 10 batters combined. In his three good ones, he's struck out better than 10 per game in only 20 innings.Lefties hit him particularly well, of course, and we've got five good lefties in today's lineup, Lindor, Soto, Nimmo, Winker, and Baty.
