Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Inspired by my own ignorance of there being a new manager in Miami, let's play "Name the Marlins Managers" I will gibe you the years served you make the guesses. No double dipping or cheating. some answers may require you guess by number. *-are interim guys with very short tenures.1, 1993-662. 1996*3. 19964. 1997-985. 1999-016. 20017. 2002-038. 2003-059. 200610. 2007-1011. 2010-1112. 2011*13. 201114. 201215. 2013-1516. 201517. 2016-2218. 2023-2419. 2025 Clayton McCollough
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 which number answer is McKeon
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 wrong. get back in line
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 (edited) 7? Edited April 1, 2025 by Guest
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I edited my post above. I can name a lot of the managers, but probably not the actual number.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 I'm only asking in this case because McKeon (and one other Marlins manager) had non-consecutive tenures as Marlins managers. So far you've missed McKeon twice
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 #8? If it was, then it was later than I thought.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Mattingly was 17. I associate his tenure with the awful Jeterification of the franchise --- that is the aesthetic and philistine ruination of the stadium and disappearing the art deco neon uniforms and outfield pop art sculpture. The Marlins executed a brilliant and beautiful rebranding in 2012 and that fucking Jeter destroyed it to put his own bland vanilla face on the franchise.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Rene Lachemann, No. 1
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 I wouldn't have guessed this but Mattingly managed almost twice as many games as any other Marlin skipper1, 1993-66 Rene Lachmann (Marshmallow)2. 1996*3. 19964. 1997-985. 1999-016. 20017. 2002-038. 2003-05 Jack McKeon (cowtipper)9. 200610. 2007-1011. 2010-1112. 2011*13. 201114. 201215. 2013-1516. 201517. 2016-22 Don Mattingly (Batmags)18. 2023-2419. 2025 Clayton McCollough
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Number 11 is Jeff Torborg of the Plainfield Torborgs.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Hall-of-Famer Jim Leyland led them to the World Series in 1997, making him No. 4.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Number 14 is Ozzie Guillen.[FIMG=300]https://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/ItemImages/000138/122472a_lg.jpeg[/FIMG]

Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 (edited) The low-hanging fruit is Skip Schumaker, No. 18. Edited April 1, 2025 by Guest
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 that is correct.Torborg is a right answer, I'm gonna slide him in where he belongs at No. 7
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I seem to recall #15 or 16 being Dan something. He was a front office guy with no experience that took the helm and that ruffled some feathers.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I don't know if you are counting Cookie Rojas's one-day reign as interim as one of the asterisks. Cookie Rojas, former Mets coach, is the namesake of my cat!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 John Boles was the guy I've been trying to think of. That's gotta be him in the 2007-2010 slot (#10)The novelty of him was that he was a nerdy front office type who became the first manager to have never played professional ball on any level.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 Marshmallow is crushing this quizBoles is the other guy with 2 tenures as Marlins manager but neither one was 07-10. I'm giving you the first reignDan something is right but 16 not 15.1, 1993-66 Rene Lachmann (Marshmallow)2. 1996* Cookie Rojas (Marshmallow)3. 1996 John Boles (Frayed knot-)4. 1997-98 Jim Leyland (Marshmallow)5. 1999-016. 20017. 2002-03 Jeff Torborg (edgy)8. 2003-05 Jack McKeon (cowtipper)9. 200610. 2007-1011. 2010-1112. 2011*13. 201114. 2012 Ozzie Guillen (Edgy)15. 2013-1516. 2015 Dan Jennings (cowtipper)17. 2016-22 Don Mattingly (Batmags)18. 2023-24 Skip Schumaker (marshmallow)19. 2025 Clayton McCollough
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Girardi is #6. Won Manager of the Year.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Joe Girardi was number nine, but his testosterone-fueled style was too attractive to the Yankees, who invoked their eminent domain rights and seized him up.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 Oops! I knew that. Good correction.Mike Redmond, another one of the former-catcher-turned-managers should be #15.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Author Posted April 1, 2025 Redmond is a guy I'd completely forgotten.It really seemed like the Yankees directed that Girardi get experience in Miami1, 1993-66 Rene Lachmann (Marshmallow)2. 1996* Cookie Rojas (Marshmallow)3. 1996 John Boles (Frayed knot-)4. 1997-98 Jim Leyland (Marshmallow)5. 1999-016. 20017. 2002-03 Jeff Torborg (edgy)8. 2003-05 Jack McKeon (cowtipper)9. 2006 Joe Girardi (edgy-Gwreck)10. 2007-1011. 2010-11 John Boles (knot)12. 2011*13. 201114. 2012 Ozzie Guillen (Edgy)15. 2013-15 Mike Redmond (Gwreck)16. 2015 Dan Jennings (cowtipper)17. 2016-22 Don Mattingly (Batmags)18. 2023-24 Skip Schumaker (marshmallow)19. 2025 Clayton McCollough
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2025 Posted April 1, 2025 I have a soft spot for the Marlins. I was able to see their first two games, and one of the World Series games. They train in Jupiter, where my parents live, so I get to see them in spring training or the Jupiter Hammerheads, their Florida State League team. We get to go to a game in Miami once in a while - usually when the Mets are there. Plus, they generally pose no threat to the Mets - with notable exceptions. They do run through managers. They actually had Brandon Hyde for a bit. Lucky for the orioles. I think he was No. 13.
