batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 The 1969 Mets sure as hell took death hits this calendar year.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I'm missing a whole word and possibly two in that post. How embarrassing. I'll guess that the answer to the trivia question is Al Jackson.

The 1969 Mets might've been one injury away from reviving Casey's ol' Jackson-Coleman battery.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Here's the full version of the 1969 Mets singing "You Gotta Have Heart" on the Ed Sullivan show. The prankster pinching Jack DiLauro's ear and wiping Bobby Pfeil's mouth at about the 1:53 mark is none other than Tom Seaver. At the end of the performance, DiLauro is pulled out of the chorus to show America his Ed Sullivan imitation.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Sullivan mentioned that Gilbert wasn't there, but I noticed that coaches Lawrence and Edward were also absent.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Sullivan without Gilbert makes for some crappy Pirates of Penzance.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Also, it's great that despite DiLauro not getting to appear in the series, he got the spotlight moment with Sully.I had seen the clip 100 times but never with the DiLauro bit included. Either that, or I had always clicked out at the end of the song.

Bobby Pfeil was the only Met in the chorus not on the '69 post-season roster.
