In an effort that's been a long time coming, the Women's Professional Baseball League is slated to begin play in 2026, featuring six teams.

At least, https://www.womensprobaseballleague.com/that's what they claim. As they haven't secured owners, home cities, stadia, or players under contract, it's probably very much up in the air.

It's also very much in the top-down way the US undertakes these efforts, though. With no state offering baseball as a high-school extramural sport, and nobody fielding official women's teams at the collegiate level (there are club teams), it's going to be hard to put together and sustain a league, much less to grow it, but I'm hoping for the best.

Cito Gaston is an official advisor to the league.

Lots of energy around women's sports these days. New hockey league did well, WNBA and its 3-on-3 variant, new pro women's rugby league coming, etc

Nick Gilder's daughter is a pretty good baseball player, I hope she gets drafted.
