Yeah, it's early, but it's never too early to think about such stuff.

- Neither Ronald Acuna nor Spencer Strider https://www.mlb.com/news/ronald-acuna-jr-spencer-strider-expected-to-miss-start-of-2025-seasonare likely to be ready for the beginning of the 2025 season.

- And if that weren't enough, set-up man Joe Jiminez is expected to miss all or most of the season following October 29th knee surgery.

Acuna had his surgery at the beginning of June. It typically takes about a year to recover from ACL surgery. It took him 9 months to come back from his 2021 tear. So figure 10-11 months? Maybe May for Acuna.

Strider got "internal brace" surgery. Which I guess is different from Tommy John? Recovery time is 9-12 months, rather than the 12-14 months for TJ. Strider got his surgery mid April 2024.

The Braves traded Jorge Soler to the Angels for SP Griffin Canning

Canning was a finalist for the Gold Glove.

Waiting for the Braves to turn him in to a 14 win pitcher

Kind of strange finding the above post -- Braves trade for Griffin Canning -- as the most recent one in this thread.

The Braves then turned around and released Canning less than a month later and the Mets signed him a month after that (so far, so good).

Sounds like Atlanta just found a creative way to get someone to take Soler's salary (signed thru '26 @ $16M/per).

Anyway, back to the Braves 2025 season:

Look, opening a season on the west coast with three vs SDP followed by four at LAD is a tall order and especially so when both teams are good as they are now.

But so far it's an 0-6 disaster with one game left. The pitching has been more or less decent [4.33 RA/G] but they've scored just NINE total runs! Talk about a NOffense!

Marcel Ozuna is their leading hitter at .214 (also .214 SLG) and the team as a whole is slashing .137/.238/.220 // 458. That's a 38 OPS+

26 y/o Nick Allen is apparently the SS replacement for now. He was acquired last November from Oakland where he hit .210/.254/.283 in parts of three seasons.

Bryce Elder vs Blake Snell today. They then go home to face MIA x 3 and PHI x 3 starting on Friday.

Meh. Every team will have had a five or six game losing streak by season's end. So the Braves had theirs out of the box.

(Either that, or the Braves are destined to go 0-162. TBD)

Do you suppose that this is a harbinger of utter awfulness to come on the Braves behalf? I don't. But we shall see.

Yeah, I forgot to mention him. Arthroscopic surgery so not the worst kind. Still, his return is TBD at this point.

Plus Acuna, starting catcher Sean Murphy, and starter Spenser Strider are currently all rehabbing past injuries.

And of course they're without Profar until mid-season, right after signing him to a 3-yr/$42mil deal.

They went up 5-0 in the first after the Dodgers kicked the ball around a bit.

Lost 6-5 on an Ohtani walkoff.

They play Miami next. So you figure some wins are coming.

After starting 0-7, the Braves are now 17-18 and playing typical Braves baseball.
