Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 For perhaps the last time ever, the Mets host the Oakland Athletics for a series. The Mets are starting Paul Blackburn, who has been a dependable edition since coming over from these very same A's. The A's aren't sure who they will start. Manager Connie Mack has only indicated that Lefty Grove is unavailable. The A's are coming off a victory over Toronto in a three-game series, culminating in a game-three victory where they beat the pants off of Chris Bassitt, a previous transfer from the Athletics to the Mets, sort of making him the Paul Blackburn of the Showalter Era.The A's boast of a roster that includes former Met minor-league castoff Michel Otañez in the bullpen, Mike Cameron's son Daz in the outfield, and a catcher named Shea. Manager Mark Scott prefers you pronounce his name in Pig Latin.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I've had a warm spot for Oakland since the Finley yearsThe 2024 Oakland A's are outperforming expectations of late
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 A's are still 19 games under .500 but 20-13 in July/August. Much of that came at the expense of the Angels (8-1 during that span) but beating LAA is something the Mets couldn't figure out how to do.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 13, 2024 Author Posted August 13, 2024 The A's have a solid history of second-half improvements during the Billy Beane era.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 An RBI hit ... I had forgotten what those looked like.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Mets are in a very slippery slope right now in their relationship with potential post season baseball
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 13, 2024 Author Posted August 13, 2024 Wow. That's not the way you want to see the bases cleared.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Since the one good offensive outburst of the entire road tripe (the final game in Denver) the Mets have been out-scored 29-2
