Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Game is on ESPN at 7:10 p.m.Luis Severino, 7-5, 4.06 ERA faces Luis Castillo, 9-11, 3.48 ERA.Stuff we have in common. Seattle used to have a professional hockey team named the Metropolitans. With the benefit of hindsight, what do you think about the Cano-Diaz trade? Mets got Robinson Cano and Diaz and $20 million. Mariners got Jay Bruce, relievers Anthony Swarzak and Gerson Bautista, and prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn.Dunn hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022, Swarzak since 2021, Bautista since 2019. Kelenic is just OK. Cano obviously sucked.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Really don't want to see a tabloid headline mañana - Sweeping In Seattle.

One of the best closers and a hall caliber hitter, even if an older one? Those are two good parts to have.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 I hope they try some of that run scoring thing I've heard that other teams do from time to time.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) eff Wilpon went all in on the 2019 season, pushing every last one of his chips into the middle of the table, because he knew that his days as Mets owner were numbered. He didn't give a shit about Cano's age or the enormous back end of Cano's contract or that he'd likely suck two or three years later and he could care less about trading away Kelenic's vast future potential because he knew he wouldn't be here when those problems materialized. That would be the next owner's problems to deal with.tThat's also why Alonso was on the opening day roster. Under normal circumstances, a million times out of a million, Alonso is held back for the requisite number of weeks and days so as to delay his free agency by a full calendar year. But Wilpon didn't give a flying fuck about the Mets future anymore. Edited August 11, 2024 by Guest
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Curious so I'll ask here , why aren't the Cubs playing today? Seems odd

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 I'm less concerned about a swoon than about the game itself, as the 5-6-7 Mets strike out in order.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Seattle's defense has been blessed by Willie Mays.
