If you know the date then you also know the starting time. Last night's game dropped the Nats to four games behind us.

Patrick Corbin vs Luis Severino

Corbin is big, lefty, from the Syracuse area (which Gary will remind us of at least twice tonight, also of his hoops prowess), dependable ... and really not very good.

But he's consistently not very good so he takes the ball every fifth day which in itself is ... well, not very good.

He's led the NL in losses each of the last three seasons. And over the last four seasons he's twice led the league in hits allowed (and leads this year too),

twice led in ER allowed (leads currently), and once in HRs allowed (is two off the lead this year).

So we got that going for us.

Garrett to the IL (Injured List), Orze to the IL (International League, if they still call it that).

Matin has arrived. Young has returned.

I think of Corbin as one of those guys who turns into Cy Young when he faces the Mets, but the reality is that the Mets' OPS against Corbin is .823 over his career.

Things said much more often about baseball these days: 'How is that Not an error?!?'[/i]

The Pete "hit" is today's first example.

OMG! SNY just had about a minute long piece on Brooklyn's famous Spumoni Gardens pizzeria on the Mets broadcast. VicSage loves that place. He grew up walking distance from there. Anybody know why they showed that clip?

Bunch of soft hits by the Nats here ... but on the run scoring hit:

- not a good throw by Taylor

- probably should have been cut by Pete who was also out of position on such a short hit

- could possibly have been blocked/smothered by Alvarez

- and the biggest crime: no backup by Severino

Personally not a fan of L&B Spumoni but different strokes for different folks. I'm more of a thin crust Grimaldis/Patsy's guy. I had the volume off so couldn't figure out why they showed that piece.

Nimmo is, like, Daniel-Murphy-2015-post-season hot.

He's pissed that he wasn't Schaeffer player of June.

Weird base running inning:

- Pete advances only from 2nd to 3rd on a double

- Alvarez doesn't advance at all from 2nd on a single

- then Iglesies scores from 2nd on a ground out

Like 70% of the radio spots I'm getting are for road safety. Safety for drivers, safety for cyclists, safety for pedestrians.

Go, Diekman!!
