I don't like "violations" in baseball. Violations are for foofy sports like soccer. Something about there being "violations" in this sport just doesn't sit right.

I've never heard the term violation used in soccer. Maybe US soccer ball it is, certainly not in the games I watch have I ever heard a commentator use it

SNY getting it right on commemorations this year, so far. First the Al Downing interview (taped, I know, but still) and now Butch.

See ESPN, you CAN conduct an interview during a game while still showing the game itself!!

And these are important discussions as opposed to shrinking the game to 1/4 screen

or even flat-out ignoring it for frivolous and self-serving nonsense.

No, just the general sentiment of there being "violations." Not necessarily the word being used. We're not dealing in traffic tickets, we're dealing with sports. Violations in sports seem a little too ... bureaucratic.

Major League ballplayers named for major league ballplayers:

O'Neil Cruz (Paul)

Mickey Mantle (Cochrane)

Willie Mays Aiken (duh!)

Ryne Sandberg (Duren)

Robinson Cano (Jackie)

Bob Aspromonte, Tommy Brown, Carl Erskine, Jim Gentile, Fred Kipp, Sandy Koufax — Jackie Robinson's remaining living Dodger teammates. (Erskine is 98!)

Presumably, he still has a Montreal Royal teammate or two out there. Maybe even a UCLA Bruin.

This is his 11th year with the club. And during that time he has had hits against the Mets at an inopportune time.

I think I read somewhere that Hall of Famer Ken Griffey was named after somebody too.

Ken Boyer I think.

God bless Álvarez. He'll take pitches with runners on, but you can tell from his body language that he hates it.

I tend to think every player named Nolan or Ryan is named after Nolan Ryan.

Especially if they're white. Doubly especially if they're white and from Texas.
