Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2024 Posted April 6, 2024 The NYM pitching staff has, or at least Had prior to today, the best ERA in baseball. But there's a caveat to all that (I mean even beyond the one where the offense can't score) and it's that more than 1/4 of the runs allowed this season to date [9 of 33] aren't counted in the ERA because they were logged in as unearned. And those don't even count things like the fly ball not caught in LF today (runner eventually scored) or the K/WP (set-up more runs), or the allowing of a run via a double-steal not played properly, and so on. Also some less than good throws from the OF.Anyway, the bottom line is that this has not been a great start for a team that supposedly focused on improving their defense this past winter.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Not just physical errors but mental ones as well. The ground ball where Baty stopped and Lindor was no where to be seen. The throw through by Narvaez. Difficult to watch.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Sloppy game Friday but I'm cutting the Mets a break for the entire opening homestand, just awful conditions to play and so not predictive of the season ahead (hitting/runs will be better , pitching worse as we all expected). Fundy mistakes, if they become a regular thing, on Mendoza.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 I think infield coach Mike Sarbagh and the infielders themselves also buy some of the blame on that third-shortstop misplay. But the real telling things with mistakes like that is whether they lead to corrections or further confusion.
