metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday he'll be done in the role in January 2029.“You can only have so much fun in one lifetime,” Manfred said. “I have been open with them (the owners) about the fact that this is going to be my last term.”Manfred has served in the position since succeeding Bud Selig as commissioner in January 2015.This will be updated.Highs ?Lows?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Lows? Start with the NL DH and go from there.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 (edited) The lockout. The WBC (many like it but... Diaz). The extra innings rule. Failure to penalize the players involved in the Astros' scandal (only Beltran was hurt as he had retired). The WS Trophy "is just a piece of metal"."What streaming service is today's game on?" These uniforms. The ASG uniforms.Enabling the A's ownership to attempt to leave Oakland without a firm deal in place in Las Vegas (related: his snide comment on the night the fans protested: "almost an average Major League Baseball crowd" An absolute POS Commissioner. Not as bad as Selig who turned away from steroid use in the name of profits but still awful. Edited February 15, 2024 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I thought this was going to be about the terrible extra-inning rule ending.I wish a story about my "leaving," was about my staying until 2029.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Making betting a totally okay thing. Doesn't baseball have a nasty history of scandals involving betting and gambling?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Yeah, getting deep in bed with gambling and bitcoin, turning them into revenue streams that would be intensely painful to extract from, was some fast and loose Trump-era bullshit.Uniform ads too. How do you stop that sort of creep?

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 All your gripes are spot on. But the baseball commish is the MLB owners' water boy, really. None of that dreadful stuff would've happened without at least, the owners' consent, if not their outright insistence. In other words, it was all inevitable and would've happened even if youse were the commissioners of baseball.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Sheesh, way to be a dick.Rob Manfred also decreed that defensive players standing where they think the ball would be hit was somehow unsporting.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 Manfred in 1958: "Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants fans have nothing to be upset about because it's not like there is not an available option. The Yankees obviously still play there. Most important, there's a fan opportunity there that's not so far away."
