He's aged pretty well. Non-tendering him when we did hasn't.

Worst case scenario is that he can give us some offense at DH against lefties. That's enough to justify giving him a call.

I think he is worth a look for a one or two year deal. Could serve as right handed DH and insurance at third base, should Baty/Vientos fail to take ownership of the position.

Mets non-tendered four other players along with Turner in the same Swiffering of the roster's dustier crevices: Jeremy Hefner, Scott Atchison, Omar Quintanilla and Jordan's Valdespin. At least those deletions didn't backfire — and no hard feelings from Hefner, apparently.

At the time, iI thought the worst-case scenarios regarding any of them would be a https://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2013/12/05/momentary-lapse-of-season/brief blip upward that the Mets would regret before everybody regressed to non-tenderworthiness. Turner's career certainly had legs that were not widely foreseen. I wouldn't mind him returning.

I kind of look at this offseason's non-tendering of Luis Guillorme as sort of similar. Despite Luis being a glove-first guy and Turner being the opposite, both were carrying a little extra in the saddlebags, both had seemingly leveled-off in their development to judge from the back of their baseball cards, both were overcommitted to look-at-me facial hair for not-quite-established players, but both had visible talent that you could reasonably fear that a new environment/organization could tap where the Mets had failed.

I often wonder how you know when to sell high on somebody. It's easy to see now that for Guillorme that was last offseason. But it's never popular to deal the guy who's overachieving. Hell, I remember getting mad when the Mets traded Ed Hearn for David Cone.
