Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Will make $25M this year, which is like three years of payroll for Tampa Bay. The internet speculation is that it wouldn't take too much to get him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I imagine there will be inquiries. They will most likely inquire after any available pitcher of merit. That salary is pretty stunning, considering the only time he's even approached a full season of work was in the short and dubious season of 2020.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Yeah, even after the TJ surgery, his return was delayed due to an oblique injury, and then later with back spasms. He did return to pitch at the end of the season. The key is whether you think the injury history is likely to recur. You figure with TJ in the rear view mirror, his elbow should be good for 2024 at least. Though you never know I guess.I'd be in favor of the move. If it blows up, the commitment is one year. And there's that saying about no such thing as a bad one-year contract. Again, this is assuming the prospect capital isn't that high.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 It really doesn't sound like it should be, does it? An often-injured guy making $25 million and one year away from free agency. He'd probably come pretty cheap if the Mets are willing to take on his full salary, and history shows that that's pretty likely.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2023 Author Posted December 14, 2023 Glasnow to the Dodgers. Twitter says they are negotiating an extension.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Rays get Ryan Pepiot and OF Johnny DelucaDodgers get Tyler Glasnow Manny Margot and $4 MillionFeels like a washBoth headline pitchers here do not have the ability to stay availableThe extension will happen
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Even considering the Dodgers and their eye-popping top of the lineup* they are desperate for starting pitching right now**, so taking a flier on someone like Glasnow was almost a must-do for them.* now batting in the top of the 1st: Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman** Kershaw = age + wear & tear; Urias last pitched on Sept 1 when a domestic violence charge popped up; Dustin May = TJS; [CROSSOUT]Noah Syndergaard[/CROSSOUT]; [CROSSOUT]Trevor Bauer[/CROSSOUT]; [CROSSOUT]Rich Hill[/CROSSOUT]

Then he'd puff his chest out as if he just did the smartest thing ever.
