kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Yeah, it's on the MLB Network scrolly bar too. That didn't last long.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 This'll be Melvin's fifth gig, all in Western cities, missing only a single season since 2003.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 I'm officially rooting against Craig Counsell. I just don't see the argument for it

I'm OK with Counsell if that's who Stearns best thinks will get us across the line.Seeing reports that Buck is the favorite to land the Angels job.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Melvin follows the Bochy path in the SD to SF trek.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 I 'fused those two guys during their careers, too.

The next Joe Maddon
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 From the no-experience list, I'm looking hard at Stephen Vogt, Seattle bullpen and quality control coach. He's got a lot of the Bochy/Melvin pedigree as a long-time/mostly part-time catcher, mostly in the west, a lot of sunburn in his profile picks and baseball cards, and he went straight from playing right onto a big-league coaching staff. He even has a big-looking head.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Per SNY/Martino, the Mets got permission to interview Counsell. Apparently MIL said no first, but changed their minds on it.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I just mean to compare him to Bruce Bochy, who was famous for having the biggest hat size in the league.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Counsell is in Cleveland interviewing today, per local The Athletic writer
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 "Evaluating his options" makes it sound like he's received three offers. I would be surprised if that's the case. If he has an offer from the Mets, that would mean that they haven't cast the wide net that Stearns said they would.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Unless the Mets have interviewed 23 candidates and only one has been reported on.That's totally what has happened.Anyhow, isn't it kind of appropriate to land a GM first and a manager second?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 As noted in a thread, Carlos Mendoza ( MFY coach) interviewed , and Sherman reports Andy Green too
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Cleveland name Vogt as new manager, don't know if he was in the Mets radar or not
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2023 Author Posted November 6, 2023 It means, at least, that Counsell isn't going there.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Darling said this morning he wouldn't be surprised in Counsel stays put.Seems Mendoza is the front runner, I don't really care at this point, butreally i'd find a surprise young guy emerging out of the blue much funner.
