He may be thinking wishfully, but that doesn't make him an interloper. More like an embellisher.

Our other interloper was the highly touted Mets prospect with the all-star caliber ceiling. Alas, he never got to play for the Mets, and never did make an all-star team, though he did fan more than 200 batters one season.

Youmans went .250 / .308 / .333 // .641 lifetime as a hitter against Dwight Gooden, despite facing Gooden in his prime, when All-Stars had trouble touching Dwight.



Youmans was a good hitting pitcher, but with Gooden, he had the advantage of growing up with the guy, getting a 12-year head start on the league in trying to figure out how to hit against him.
