Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 The Mets try to build on their resurgent homestand by invading Chicago behind the arm of Kodai Senga. Drew Smyley, who has built a long career out of stubborn mediocrity, is off to a terrific start for the Cubs, and he defends the honor of the Wrigley faithful in this one. I imagine the Mets aren't going to set a record in terms of most opposing lefthanded starters, but it kind of feels that way.Game starts at 7:40 which I suppose will never really feel right at Wrigley. But since pretty much the entire league is filled with guys who were born after the lights went up at Wrigley, I guess it's actually a thing. The lights at Wrigley are older than most parks at this point, I suppose.Speaking of lefties, check out Mr. Met muscling up!https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CRiv4hPVAAEWgVT.jpg>
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Only 5 parks other than Wrigley are older than 8/8/88 when Wrigley had it's first night game:Kauffman Stadium -- Kansas City RoyalsOakland Coliseum -- Oakland AthleticsAngel Stadium -- Los Angeles AngelsDodger Stadium -- Los Angeles DodgersFenway Park -- Boston Red SoxSkyDome in Toronto opened in 1989, IIRC.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 I wouldn't draw such conclusions.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 You may not have much company with that thought but we shall see
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Fixed the pitcher, must have been seeing things at 7am.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Certainly interesting that they stacked with righties, but left Canha and Álvarez out.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 He's oh-for-two career against Smyly.Escobar, on the other hand, is 8-for-15 with four homers and a double.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 1st inning runs?Nah! We don't do those.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 That looked sore for Escobar, Keith Hernandez MD says he will need to watch it cos the blood rushes down
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Oh, that's what folks used to say about Sanchez' glove.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Early leads?Nah! We don't do those either.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Megill meltdown in the second, 4-sniffle already. Smyly racking up the pitch count early so we'll see...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Centerfield is where it's going out tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 So the extra runs in this inning all stem from the reversed call at 2B that was anything but definitive.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Too few opportunities and then making the least of the ones we had.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Mets down, 4-1. "Honey, I think the dog needs an out." "OK, I'll take care of her." "Are you walking that way?" "Yeah, why?" "I was going to go with you. We need some things from Safeway."Family walks down to Safeway. Dog, who has grown rather immobile, gets towed in a wagon, but we put her out every few houses to sniff and maybe go pee or poo. We get to Safeway, and the wifey goes in for a few things. I find a strip of grass to put the dog out, but she just lies there until her mother comes out of the store, at which point, I pick her up and put her back in the wagon. We head back toward home and I get back to the screen, and realize my glasses are missing. They're just readers, but I've grown dependent on them. I squint at the screen and notice the Mets have fallen into a deeper hole, 6–2, and I feel sad, as well as stupid. My wife says not to worry, because I have backups, but shit, I just know I lost them bending over to pick up the dog one of the 11 times while I was out.So I grab my phone to use as a flashlight and head back out. I have to squint like a mofo to read the apps and get my flashlight working, and retrace my steps, taking time to search on any strip of grass we put the dog out at. The good news is ... I find my glasses! The bad news is ... they're all the way back at Safeway! The other good news is that the Mets got a run back, and Nogo had a sweet inning while I was typing this. The other good news is that I'm not going to ask my doctor if I need Keytruda. Let's go, Mets!!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 23, 2023 Author Posted May 23, 2023 Leiter, I'm not saying you shouldn't go all out against McNeil here, but your uncle isn't in the Mets Hall of Fame yet, you know?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Good essay but a crappy mets game
