I dunno. This schadenfreude doesn't resonate with me. They're over .500, six games better than the Mets and only 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. Meanwhile the Mets are not only blowing a chance at post-season play this season, but more importantly and with more long-term implications, Shohei Ohtani.

Remember how the commissioner needed to void the trade of Stanton to the yanx on account of it bringing about the end of competetive balance and an unbroken string of championships to the Bronx?

Indeed he is, and he was batting third against the Mets in that series at YSIII. I'd've felt a lot better about that if the Mets hadn't lost the second game.



Fun Fact: The Yankees farm system may or may not be a radioactive wasteland — I can't say — but their farm director is named "Oppenheimer."

.519 in an era where if you finish over .500, you're practically a lock to make the playoffs.

Yeah, it's a lazy line which both isn't true and basically translates into, 'Wah, the new guys aren't doing immediate transitions into starters and All-Stars like that '90s group did and we MFY fans now expect as a birthright'

Five games pitched since his perfect game* and now he's expected to not pitch again this season (according to one version I read).

Of course it's also not like he's the only author of a NYY perfect game who enjoyed himself a cocktail or two: Wells, D.; Larsen, D.

Not that I'm suggesting there's a cause and effect thing here.





* in the seven games sandwiching that PG (two before, five since) he allowed 33 runs on 38 hits across 33 innings. Go figger.

He shouldn't have been sent. He's not running well (though I had no idea he was THAT lame) and it was clear from

how he went from 2nd to 3rd. There were 2 outs so I guess the coach figured it was worth the shot but he was dead

meat even though it wasn't even a particularly good throw.

He's actually been hitting well lately. But his problem, the same one he's had his whole career, it that those hot streaks

never last very long even though still only 33 y/o. He can carry a team for a few weeks, but not for months.

But, hey, the Yanx are only on the hook for four more seasons!

Giving him the benefit of the doubt here that he isn't dogging it and the Yankees KNOW he can't run and are choosing to play him anwyay, he is slashing .209/.291/465 over the past two seasons (170 games, 695 PA) - what value is he providing?



If I were the Yankees, I'd want to reserve my DH spot for the banged-up Aaron Judge, keeping him the lineup every single day seems important to their playoff hopes.

Braves just finished the sweep by shutting the Yanx out for the second straight night and winning by a cumulative 18-3 score for the series [11-3, 5-0, 2-0]

This officially drops the Yanx into a sub-.500 record [60-61] this late in the season for the first time since they were, well, also 60-61 after 121 games in 1995

under some manager named Showalter. The kicker about that season is that they then finished out the year by going 19-4 (strike shortened season) and

making the playoff as the WC team before losing that epic playoff series to the Mariners -- Griffey scores from 1st on Edgar Martinez's double down the

LF line off Jack McDowell (normally a starter, 'Black Jack' had relieved some rookie named Rivera) -- which is largely credited with saving baseball in Seattle.

That game wound up being Showalter's last game managing the Yanx.



The last time they finished a season under .500 was 1992 [76-85] which was the last of four consecutive sub-.500 teams.
