Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 'Misery' encapsulates the way I felt that night. Utter failure of both hitting and pitching in the biggest moment of the season.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 I concede the election to "Misery" but still think that "'Bach" is the superior cover. I can't get passed the "SE" on Lindor's butt and the rambling text to the left. "'Bach" is an exciting picture from a unique perspective. The only argument I can make for "Misery" is that The Beatles shouldn't lose to Kiss.

Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 The photo in the Misery cover doesn't show misery at all. It's not a bad photo, but not reflective of the headline. If it wins, it shows that Mets fans wallow in self-loathing.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 'BACH is sneaky good, transcending the usual strained-pun frivolity with a photographic perspective you don't see every day, but like last year with the artistic rendering of Almora's catch, it strikes me as a back page in a vacuum. The particular Mets victory documented carries little resonance within the season's narrative…which isn't the game's fault, but it simply doesn't live on in the collective fan consciousness mere months later. The back page that goes on permanent display at Tabloid World HQ ideally communicates the year just completed in a flash. MISERY — hed and pic — captures the defining emotion of a postseason having had its hopes dashed and its expectations turned upside down. I'd have preferred a final postseason vibe of ECSTASY and a back/front page to memorably reflect it, but Mick Jagger just texted that we can't always get what we want.

I voted for MISERY and I don't wallow in self-loathing. I don't get any angst from the Mets when they lose. It's just a game, a diversion. I think the cover is more distinctive.

And correct.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 I can't get over thinking that BACH could've been a lot better. The picture is fine but all the text obscures it and we're left with just a wedge showing Dan's face and Pete's back. It's a little uninspiring.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Looks like Misery is destined for infamy. Details at eleven.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 Watch for the official announcement on Tuesday morning. The city of Stockholm is all abuzz with anticipation.
