metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 It blows my mind that this was 24 years ago, my formative years as a Mets fans , seems like yesterday
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2023 Author Posted April 20, 2023 Seems Joel was liked well enough? Decent player on some bad teams is the vibe I'm getting?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Youngblood was a terrific athlete who played baseball, more than he was a ballplayer. He could play all nine positions, but none of them with much polish. His arm in right was second only to Ellis Valentine's and comparable to Dave Parker's.His bat wasn't good enough for the outfield, but his fielding was too full of boots for the infield. He was a solid reserve for a long time for a lot of teams, some of them good, but on Joe Torre's Mets he not only played every day, but he was one of their best players.Go one-on-one with Joel! Among the other things that comes up in this interview was that he used the same glove no matter what position he played, which might explain a lot. He also confuses Bud Harrelson with Felix Millan, I think.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 What a good interview Joel gave

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Profiles can deceive, but I'ma say Cleon Jones, Tom Seaver, and Jerry Grote. That's probably Koosman's butt on the right, as he was on deck, and his second number looks like a 7.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 L-R: Clendenon, Seaver and Kooz.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Yeah, that's Clendenon. The third guy seems to have Koos' schnozz, but also seemed to have a 1 for his first digit.
