I've long thought that it's a testament to the umps as a whole that I rarely have opinions on any of them specifically ... with occasional exceptions of course [cough Angel, cough]

But I usually noticed Ted Barrett. He was a big sum-bitch for one. But he also gave off that impression of being in control without having to resort to his size or getting loud and

argumentative. Like if Gil Hodges had ever become an ump.

I found his Wikipedia interesting, especially the personal part

Barrett is also heavily involved with Christian ministry, and has earned a master's degree in Biblical Studies from Trinity College and Seminary. In 2013, he earned a doctorate in theology, with an emphasis in Pastoral Ministry, from Trinity; his dissertation was "An Investigation of Faith As a Life Principle in the Lives of Major League Umpires".[11]

And yet Angel Hernandez lingers on.

I thought the very same thing

I was hoping to see his name on the list, too.

I hope they replace each of the retiring umpires with a lord-a-leaping.

I hope they replace them with an automatic strikezone.

Well-respected crew chiefs Ted Barrett, Greg Gibson, Tom Hallion, Sam Holbrook, Jerry Meals, Jim Reynolds and Bill Welke are among the group to hang up their chest protectors, while Marty Foster, Paul Nauert and Tim Timmons will join them in retirement.

None of those names stand out to me, which for an umpire probably means he was doing a good job!

I like that they gave pronunciation help, when needed, although I think they should have continued with Mil-er etc

That's to prevent Gary Cohen from calling them all "Jay-or-Reese".

That's the way I would pronounce Livensparger, too.

CON: Ten minor umpires

Not one is Angel Hernandez or C.B. Bucknor

PRO: How much worse can they be than most umps?

They have experience with the pitch clock.

I didn't put two and two together but this is clearly related to veteran umpires having little taste for enforcing the nu rules.
