The Mets have agreed to a trade that'll net them right-handed reliever Mychal Givens from the Cubs, SNY's Andy Martino tweets. (Per trade rumors)

The appearance of Racial Iglesies the other night (game 2 of the ATL series) reminded me that one of the guys the Braves traded to get him was RH reliever

Jesse Chavez. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Chavez is one of those spare parts, one who'll turn 39 in a few week, but he's also one who's

lasted 15 seasons (and counting) in the majors. He's now pitched for nine teams (not a record) including several of them twice, including the Braves three

times, and appeared in over 100 games for just one of them (OAK, 101).

And the only reason I'm noting him here is that this was the ninth time he's been traded in his career. Not the ninth time he's been moved, just the ninth

via a trade in which he had no control including the second time this season alone. There were other transactions as well: he's been flat-out purchased once;

selected off waivers once; grantees free agency five times; signed as a free agent six times; released once.

Below is his full transactions resume (trades in red). Not sure if veteran character actor James Hong has a resume much longer than this one for Chavez.

That's a lot of packing suitcases for not quite 20 years of base-balling.

WOW! At least he knows how to pack a suitcase.

But these interest me:

February 23, 2018: Signed as a Free Agent with the Texas Rangers.

July 19, 2018: Traded by the Texas Rangers to the Chicago Cubs for Tyler Thomas (minors).

and
March 14, 2022: Signed as a Free Agent with the Chicago Cubs.

I thought part of the CBA says you can't trade a signed free agent during his first year.

Has this changed?

Or somebody overlooked those deals saying, well, its only him? (j/k)

=smg58 post_id=102066 time=1659494391 user_id=62] Alvarez is doing better at AAA than most people realize (a .789 OPS despite a sub-.200 BABIP is actually impressive in a good way). He'll be fine, and we'll see him before the month is out.

I think it's only in the first year of multi-year deals.

An impressive typo to get both of Raisel Iglesias names wrong!

My ex-grandmother-in-law's first name was Raisel, the Yiddish diminutive of "Rose." I don't guess that's how he got his name.

And naturally, in pointing out Frayed Knot's typo, you manage to commit one yourself, leaving out the apostrophe in Iglesias' name.

I generally don't point out typos unless they're funny. "Racial" amused me because it has another meaning that would make a strange name for a person. "Iglesies" was just the icing on the cake. And yes, I'm terrible with apostrophes, especially when it's a word that ends with an "s" possessive.

I know he was on the injured list, but would've been interesting to see if the Mets tried to trade McCann. THAT would've been a bold commitment.

It will be easier to trade McCann in the offseason, although the deal may be of the "eat 80% or more of the salary and take a low-A reliever" variety.

As for Dom Smith... I don't see how he avoids getting non-tendered at this point. I'd have thought, since he's re-habbing, that somebody might have been willing to take a stab at him for the remaining six weeks or so (assuming the Mets eat his contract for the remainder of this year) and see if he shows signs of life with full-time play (sort of a lease with an option to buy), but I guess nothing worked out.
