Passan's tweet is misleading, because it's not about the age; it's about the years of team control. He's not a rookie; he's going to be paid in arbitration for 2 more years (after 2022) and then be a free agent.

The voters of Georgia would gladly trade Herschel Walker for Juan Soto.

Barry Svurluga in The Washington Post has written that 3 groups are interested in buying WSH but all want Soto's future, one way or another, to be decided before the deal is made. As a result, Rizzo, on behalf of the Lerners, has some motivation to get a deal done.

The Mets would have to take Corbin, too.

More realistically, this Tweet discusses packaging Soto's positive value with Strasberg's negative value, and not trading for prospects at all, including some deals with the Mets

By "A Herschel Walker deal," what is meant is that the Nationals will be looking for an anti-Covid misting machine, a fake college diploma, and a couple of apes.

it is kinda nuts, the packaging of deals each team wants to dump, with one big contract one team wants to acquire mixed in. Hardly seems like a baseball trade at all. I'm still not used to it, may never be.

This is literally what Passan's thread is talking about for the Mets: we take on Corbin's and Strasburg's contracts which wipe out Soto's value, and give them McCann's and Shreve's. Works out to about even. Strasburg you gotta figure as a dead loss, 35 mil per year for the next five years or so, and useless, though Corbin can't be any worse than the 13thman in our bullpen, so you can use him for mopup work and such.

The real question, especially given Strasburg's contract as an object lesson, is whether paying anyone top dollar into 2037 makes sense given the vagaries of life, such as Tony Conigliaro, Tony Oliva, and other tony figures.

If we want to go big, not Soto big but bigger than Wilson Contreras, I wonder what it would take to pry catcher Salvador Pérez rom KC?

Consider first that he's hitting as well as McCann this season.

For average, but he still has 11 HR and his body of work is far superior.

He's currently on rehab assignment after a stint on the IL at AAA (Jake K'd him twice today) so maybe his injury explains his production this year. He's on a long term contract at big bucks, so maybe KC may be inclined to deal him. Still 32 yrs old, so it might be worth it to kick the tires on a deal.
