May weekend: Saturday (night game) Sunday (night game) Memorial Day Monday (night game)

If Abner Doubleday were still alive he'd be rolling over in his grave.

The sweep requires more Kinks references!

I was a at a minor league game last night, and a guy was wearing a Motorhead "No Sleep 'til Hammersmith" t-shirt. When I commented on it, he said, "The loudest concert I've ever been to." The second loudest, he said, was The Kinks. Didn't see that coming.

Not a loud song:

Today's game is the problem. Saturday night with post-game Fireworks on a holiday weekend is a great game; no issues there at all. And ESPN national TV games can't be a surprise anymore (it wasn't as if other teams were playing night games).

But on the holiday itself? The Mets are on a homestand and Washington played yesterday afternoon, traveling all the way from…DC.

Weird, it's almost 6:00. Maybe the web-staff is napping off some bbq.

A lineup is in custody.

I got Darling Nikki batting eighth here: https://www.mlb.com/starting-lineupshttps://www.mlb.com/starting-lineups

I got to beta-test a time machine yesterday. You can't travel to the future and interact with it or anything like that, but you can just move around and witness it in a sort of ghost-like state. I went 20 years into the future, and discovered that Summer 2022 in New York is still celebrated as The Summer of Plummer.

OK, it seems (seems) that Buck has decided that McNeil belongs in the 5 hole and Marte in the 2 hole, rather than vice versa, which is where I'd put them. A little odd, given their skills, but maybe Buck knows something I don't. McNeil has a better OBP and slightly lifetime better SLG (not very much better) so I'd want him hitting #2.

I suppose it could be worse, the Yanx (and several other teams) aren't scheduled at all today (as we haven't been on multiple holidays over the past few years).

And the Saturday/Fireworks deal is fine except that we all know that Saturday night games are now the norm, including in the northeast in April.

Buck has rarely used Marte deep in the lineup except when he was struggling. So it seems to be a choice between McNeil or Escobar 5th, and that seems to favor McNeil

NICK is being interviewed on the radio pregame. Mentioned he was grateful his Wifey of 10 years was there. Fan retrieved the ball for him, he exchanged it for a bat, will give the ball to his parents. Very polite, almost seems more like an Elliot than a NICK.

I'm guessing that (1) Buck likes Marte's speed/power combo in the two-hole, (2) McNeil's wheels are less than ideals, and (3) putting your toughest out behind Alonso is just a kind thing to do for the big guy.

Mickey has hit wherever he's batted.

Damn! The replay review overturned what would have been the GiDP of the year.

Fair, though. He looked safe by a step.

Lotta baseball left to play 💪

Indeed there is.

[CROSSOUT]43[/CROSSOUT] 52 pitches from Fedde just to get four outs ... and two of those outs came on one pitch (the McNeal GIDP) and one on a great catch by Robles.

I watched the 1st inning with a WSH fan and he was beaming after his team scored 3 in the first. I just said, "this Mets team is relentless." I hope he's listening in the car now at 6 to 3.
