Syracuse Mets drop to 1-9 after a 10-1 drubbing today at the hands of the Columbus Clippers. Khalil Lee had the lone ribeye for the good guys

Columbus completed their home sweep of Syracuse-Me-While-I-Kiss-the-Sky with a 4-3 win after plating a nine

That's a six-game sweep.

On the upside, Travis Blankenhomey homered in two of the last three games.

After a rainout on Tuesday, the Syracuse squad came back to sweep a doubleheader yesterday by 1-0 and 4-2 scores. I'll be attending tonight's game; too cold for my family (low-mid 50's and overcast) so I'll be hanging with a buddy and enjoying dollar hot dogs and $2 Saranac beers

Syracuse has rebounded no small amount from their 1-10 start, going 11-10 since then. That's hardly a juggernaut, and it still leaves them below .400 and in ninth place in the International League's ten-team East Division, but you can't turn the Titanic around on a dime. Anything but last after 1-10 start is something, and winning their last two over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (riding a three-hit shutout last night) is always a plus.

Stepping up for the starting rotation have been two prospects who've kind of strayed a little bit from the path — David Peterson and Thomas Szapucki. The latter of those two was brilliant in his last start, striking out nine in only four innings, walking one and giving up no runs on three hits. He could be the next Steven Matz — the big shot prospect who only starts fulfilling his promise after injuries have made everyone forget about him.

The downside of that scenario is that he could be the next Steven Matz.

Coming on strong out of the pen of late has been José Rodriguez. JoRo had gotten off to a terrible start, getting in April and complining a 9.92 ERA through May 4, but he really found something in his last outing on Wednesday, throwing three scoreless innings, striking out three, walking one, and permitting only two base hits while walking away with the win. I'll have what he's drinking.

Rainouts in the Northeast has allowed the 'Cusers to play only four games this week, but what a four games it's been for Mark F. Vientos. MF is 6-15 over that period with four homeruns and seven RBI. With three walks to factor in there, he's put up a whopping .400 / .500 / 1.200 // 1.700 to also start and ripping turnaround from a lousy April.

The saga continues this evening as they attempt to hand one more ignominious defeat to S/W-B, with Peterson toeing the rubber. I'm counting something like 32 active S-Mets, so apparently, the roster limit in the International League this year is however many you can fit on the bus.

Peterson throws six innings of shutout ball, Felix Peña and Alex Claudio finish up with three hitless innings as the Mets beat Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3-0.

Syracuse remains in ninth place, but only a half game out of seventh and one and a half games out of fifth in the very bunchy division.

Johneshwy Fargas was promoted from Binghamton just before the start and led off the game with a homer to left-center.

Mets got three homers today (from Smittty, Daniel Paika, and a newly reactivated Mark Vientos) in soundly beating Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 10–1.

In fact, Jupiter squeezing out a 5–4 walkoff against St. Lucie was the only thing that kept Sunday from being an organizational sweep.

Sadly I missed this entire homestand due to life complications, and the Syracuse Mets aren't back in town until Tuesday, 6/28.

My employer has decided to hold a "company night" on Thursday, 6/30, so the Fman family plus my mother in law will all be there that evening. Free tickets, pretty sweet deal there.

Free tickets to a baseball game, but your mother-in-law is coming along, would be a good news/ bad news situation for me.

Go anyway. You had prior plans to employer or MIL

Yeah, of all the places I might go with my MIL, a ballgame is more tolerable than most. Easier to not really listen to her and focus on baseball, beer and hot dogs.

Syracuse beat the turncoat Norfolk Tides tonight 14-5, running away with the game by scoring seven over the last three innings. Outfield Daniel Paika hit his 15th homerun.

Syracuse struck out 17 Tides, and Norfolk responded by sending 14 Mets back to the bench. Three True Outcome Baseball appears to be alive and well in the International League. I believe the OrangeMets have two relievers (Otañez and Montes de Oca) hitting 102.

A few thoughts from the MAAAts last night here in the ROC.

1) Blankenhorn is WHITE HOT. 2-2 with two walks last night, and 8-8 with four walks in his last twelve plate appearances.

2) Khalil Lee looks a little lost at the plate? I don't know. I'm not a hitting coach. But he doesn't scream "TOP PROSPECT" right now. Had a big hit in the top of the eighth down by a run, but got thrown out (by a lot) trying to stretch it into a double. The S-Mets took the lead later in the inning (thanks to Blankenhorn), but that extra run would have been nice.

3) Tim Adleman looked good early, retiring the first eight, then walked the #9 hitter and kind of fell apart in the third and was out of the game by the fourth.

4) Watch Michel Otanez. Dude came out throwing 99-101 all the way down to 85, and was making batters look silly. Got the first two in the ninth easily, then walked and hit the #3 and #4 hitters, but induced an easy groundout for the save. His stats say he has some control issues, but he could be interesting.

Otañez and/or Montes de Oca might well be September Mets worth springing on the league in the midst of the playoff run. If not, Otañez is certainly going to be added to the roster in the off-season. They throw 204 miles per hour between them, and they'd never survive Rule 5-age. It's the sort of speed that makes a team overlook, 5+ ERAs.

MdO probably won't be eligible, but I'm almost certain that Otañez will be.

While the big boy Mets were busy getting their potatoes mashed by the Astros, I took in a delightful 5-4 walkoff win here in the 'Cuse on a perfect 75 degree day full of sunshine. Living the AAA lifestyle is pretty sweet, walked up solo around first pitch and scored a seat in the second row behind the plate, for the cost of a $10 ticket voucher bought for me by Fmom as she does for us every Xmas.

Back, last night, for company night at the ballpark, so free tickets for my family and I, and for the second time this week I watched the AAA Mets walk off a win in the bottom of the 9th, this time on a bases loaded walk. Good week for live MiLB baseball, another beautiful warm summer night and a lively crowd of nearly 8k fans (Thursdays are dollar hot dog/$2 beers).

Hot shot catching prospect Francisco Alvarez called up to the 'Cuse and made his AAA debut today. Now the team goes out on the road and isn't back in town until Tuesday, July 12th.

Good news is, that entire week, I am on vacation and hope to get to at least 2-3 games on that homestand.

Syracuse takes the top half of a doubleheader tonight, 9-4, on the strength of homers by Blankehorn, Katoh, Marrero, Jankowski, Vientos, Blankenhorn (again), and Lee.

That's seven homeruns in a seven-inning game.

September 7th is "La Cheeserie" Day in Syracuse as the Tony Kornheiser podcast is honored. Some of the front office staff listens to the show and decided to do this just for the hell of it. Tony is now aware (even though he will not be there).

Tony went to SUNY Binghamton, so he's no stranger to central NY State.

This is tonight and if you say "La Cheeserie" at the box-office you get in for free!

Nice. I think we're going Friday. Normally their season would have ended on Labor Day but they play late now. Fall baseball in the 'Cuse and the forecast looks good (high 80s during the day and staying above 60 even into the late hours). My wife will likely only need two sweatshirts
