Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 NLCS #2 was a good game... and if it was an hour shorter it would have been a really good game. (3:56)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 And maybe it's just a case of low expectations -- plus I can always make arguments against a three-man booth -- but I've been surprised over the two-three years I've been hearing him that Francouer has been as good at the mic as he's been. I catch a decent amount of Braves reg season games so I hear him there too where he's essentially replaced Glavine as the topcolor guy on local telecasts. Now maybe doing fewer was Glavine's choice, I dunno, but between him being the bigger and longer-term Atlanta star and a seemingly more educated (thoughneither went to college) I found it shocking that they went with 'Frenchy' whom I had pegged as a typical dumb jock and maybe even more than most given his cave man approach to hitting, his reliance on his athleticism rather than trying to improve on his shortcomings as a player, and his reputation as being a totally gullible butt of clubhouse jokes wherever he went. But as ex-players go he's probably better than most and he went from first filling in on local casts to network choice rather quickly despite not being an obvious 'Name' hire.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 I agree. That is the best network team out there. I've turned on the teevee for the last couple of innings of both games and got to see some exciting baseball. Man, I really hate the Dodgers. I hate the Braves but not nearly as much as the 20-years-ago Braves.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 I'm strong behind the Braves in this series. They did what they needed to do, all year. They sent Minter to the minors to get his shit together in July, made the right trades when Ozuna and Acuna went down, they're all about Guillermo Heredia and d'Arnaud
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 And if it helps the whole lack of sleep thing, they drop the puck Tuesday night at 5:08 - or a good old fashioned two in the afternoon start local time.Of course that doesn't mean the game still won't take four hours, but at least it'll still be daylight in the east for two of those four.

But I can root for the Braves right up until the first tomahawk thingie. Good God, retire that garbage.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Braves lead 5-2 in the top of the sixth, but Charlie Morton has thrown 96 pitches through 5. (6 walks!!)Time for the bullpen to step up.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) Cody Bellinger three-run homer to tie it at 5 in the 8th is a very Dodgers gonna Dodger moment. Edited October 19, 2021 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Lukas Jackson definitely didn't have the cool hand tonight.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 Quite a bit of Dodgering as L.A. takes a 6-5 lead.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 As soon as Brian Anderson said the Braves were five outs from a 3-0 series lead, I sensed a Dodger rally was at hand. You can't count outs from that far away without a bigger edge than three runs.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Author Posted October 19, 2021 Also Freeman leaving the bases loaded in the fourth and d'Arnaud grounding into a DP to end the fifth had that augurs badly feeling. They should have been piling on, as anyone who watched the 2021 Mets waste opportunities could attest.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 I was counting down outs while watching the 2003 ALCS ... I also got only as far as five before the roof started to cave in.TdA hit into two rally-killing GiDPs today.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 The advertising at Dodger Stadium is hands down the best. It's there, but not in your face.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Roberts lets their reliever hit w/a runner on 2nd and two outs (inning ending K) then brings in a new guy to start the next inning anyway???
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 (edited) The pitcher in question, Graterol, had retired six hitters on just 14 pitches but I guess Roberts decided he had had enough up-downs for the night. His replacement, Treinen, threw a scoreless inning although with a lot more work involved. But again, if he had already decided to yank him, why give up an RBI chance by letting a reliever (a rookie w/2 ML ABs) hit? kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 Lotta empty seats in some camera shots.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 6 innings >2-1/2 hoursSo what else is new?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2021 Author Posted October 21, 2021 3 HRs? This Dodger lead is Taylor made!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I find myself hoping that the Braves wrap this one up just so that the Mets can try to talk to those two Dodgers executives that they're allegedly targeting. I really don't care which of these teams advances to the World Series.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2021 Author Posted October 22, 2021 Max Scherzer will not be starting Game Six, presumably making the Dodgers blue.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 'Fatigue' is cited as the reason for pushing Scherzer back.I think maybe the lesson from these LCS's is that maybe these starting plus relieving assignments early in series (iow, not in Game 6's or 7's) have their drawbacks.Scherzer, Eovaldi, Urias, and maybe others seem to have had their effectiveness diminished by their managers trying to burn the candles at both ends.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 Don't give me this "ATL has grown on me" crap. Yeah, they're a good story but it's still the chopping Braves that you rooted against all season. And if that hasn't convinced you, anti-vacc'er Travis Tritt is signing the Anthem tonight so F*CK THEM. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/dan-wolken/2021/10/23/travis-tritt-atlanta-braves-nlcs-national-anthem/6154830001/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/dan-wolken/2021/10/23/travis-tritt-atlanta-braves-nlcs-national-anthem/6154830001/
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Author Posted October 23, 2021 Buehler will start Game Six. Scherzer says he might be available for hypothetical Game Seven. Anderson goes for the Tritters to clinch.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I am sick at the idea that we are facing a world series between the fucking Braves and the fucking trash can bangers.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 ATL made numerous smart movies at the deadline, especially with Rosario who was on the IL at the time and didn't have to give up a Top 5 prospect in any deal.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 23, 2021 Author Posted October 23, 2021 Was happy to see Td'A ignite the winning rally with a walk. And, hey, good for Heredia.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Didn't watch the game, but the final outcome made me happy.Later
