By the way, after I asked this question, Lee said this on the line.

"People ask me, 'How many times have you homered from both sides of the plate?' 'How many grand slams have you hit?' You know what I say? 'One more than YOU.'""

Classy, Lido.

Mazzilli's lone career grand-slam homer came as a Met on the 202nd birthday of The United States of America, https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN197807041.shtmlJuly 4, 1978, breaking a scoreless tie in the eighth inning by taking Larry Christenson deep with the sacks drunk in the eighth, handing the Mets a 4-0 win. Both Christenson and winning pitcher Pat Zachry went the distance. Zach was brilliant, holding the division champs to two hits and a walk. It raised the All-Star's record to 10-3, but it was his last win of the season.

That was the first of two games that day between the Mets and Phils, and Mazz went https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN197807042.shtmldeep again in the nightcap. Craig Swan was terrific as well, striking out 13 (including Greg Luzinski four times), but he faded at the end, losing 3-2 on one run in the eighth and two in the ninth.
