G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Petco Park continues to nurture pitcher hitting magic.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Off Scherzer, too. Also: the giant Swagg Chain is incredible.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 Even better: the TERRIBLE Nationals booth's... um... description of events.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 WSH lost that game 9 to 8 despite leading 8-0. So sad. What a pitching matchup... not! Darvish: 6 ER in 3 IP, Scherzer: 7 ER in 3 2/3 IP. The game took 3:40. The one or two WSH fans that understand the game might be upset that Manager Martinez used Sam Clay in the 9th with the game tied rather than Brad Hand, his closer. I thought that you don't save your closer for extra innings on the road if the game is tied.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Grand Slam, tough pitch, off Scherzer, first ML hit, second ML AB, second ML game, 28 y/o career minor leaguer. And mostly a minor league Yanqui (they drafted, purchased, and/or re-signed him three different times, but also released him thrice) so mostly DH so not many minor lg ABs.Also a local kid so quite possibly friends/family in the stands ... and yet he seemed reasonably calm about the whole thing.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 I will always always ALWAYS hate the DH.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Agreed, although it says something that baseball has done SO MANY stupid rule changes in the past few years that they almost make the DH seem reasonable.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 When I saw Tatis had homered earlier in this game, with the Nationals well ahead, I allowed myself to think, “If they somehow lose this, this has the potential to kill their season or at least wound it,” not really believing such a short-term result was likely.Don't know about the rest of their season, but damn, that's a nice National loss. The inverse of Diaz vs. Suzuki.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 It was just stunning to see how every seat at Petco seemed to have somebody in it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Why not, they've got an exciting team.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2021 Author Posted July 9, 2021 No NFL to any longer distract the pro sports fans of San Diego.

I'm just (a) not used to full admission being allowed after the last year and a half, and ( seeing a sellout actually represented by people in every seat rather than tooling around the concourse, especially down by seven or whatever.
