So often this year, a guy has squared up a ball and Cohen begins to shout like he's given it a ride. But it's a squishy 2021 ball, and the outfielder doesn't even have to go back that far, catching the ball short of the track without much excitement.

But when Peraza has connected with the ball, somehow, it's stayed hit. It's like he's playing with a different ball.

Is that more in road games where Gary's not actually in the ballpark?

I've said it here and there on this forum, and I'll say it again here. Between Peraza, Villar, and Guillorme, I'm not missing J.D. Davis. If anyone is going to be trade fodder, I would prefer it to be him.

I'd say the ball isn't jumping off the bat this year in comparison to two years ago. I've seen swings by McCann (and others, but especially him) where I had little doubt it was going to be a HR off the bat only to see it just be a long fly ball.

I began jumping up and down at Peraza's swing, though. It was too perfect a situation for it to die in the OF.

Not exactly sterling numbers, but now half of his hits this season (13 of 26) have gone for XB (6 HR, 7 2B) and a bunch of them have been big.

Still just 27 y/o, in his 5th org and 4th ML team, sometimes those starter-to-bench guys make the best irregular players. That's a tougher role,

I think, for younger guys still trying to fight their way up the ladder.
