Just the name Jacob should get me halfway down the road to excellence, right?

I'm Journeyman Jacob Barnes and I got nailed by the Mets off waivers just after the 2020 season ended. I've stunk with three straight teams since the start of 2019, but I was good before that, and hey, before that wasn't that long ago. And if you're not buying that, the Mets kind of are, as they put several guys through waivers while keeping me. Guillermo Heredia got claimed by Atlanta. Ali Sánchez got flipped to the Cards for cash. Brad Brach got released outright, and I'm still squatting a roster spot, along with a 13.50 spring training ERA.

Can I tell you something? Sometimes I would get me and Brach confused. Not so much anymore, because he's gone and I'm still here. The Mets even avoided arbitration with me and gave me a contract with incentives. I didn't see a place for myself either, until Seth Lugo got hurt. Now I have helium!

Yeah, my hard-hit rate has been going up every year, but helium is helium, so don't mock me! (I won't be mocked.) But I will be predicted. So watch me do my thing in the video below and then tell me what my 2021 is going to look like.

He takes a leave of absence in the summer, heads off to Paris to hang out with Mike Fitzgerald and Blake Stein and Matt Joyce, goes down to Pamplona for the bullfights, drinks too much, embarrasses himself, comes back to the States to sober up, gets into a couple of games in September, spends the offseason thinking about the novel he's going to write.

I don't know this guy at all. What I gleaned over the weekend is that Hildenberger might be the longshot young vet best suited for the first shot at being the middle deliver we want. So I'm going to say Barnes is an alternate-soter till an injury comes along, then he gets injured and the injured guy returns. 9 appearances, 3.67. couple good ones, one or two ugly ones, all comes out in the wash

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh, but the earth abideth.

So does this dude, in Syracuse-- where the sun also goes up and down-- for pretty much the entire year.

This is a nice, if unintentional, tribute to The Old Mole.
