Hi, I'm Albert Almora, Jr., and I guess I was signed because the Mets wanted a little bit more glove and a little bit more effectiveness against lefties than they thought they could fully get out of Brandon Nimmo, and that hedge against Nimmo's weaknesses was Guillermo Heredia, and they wanted a little bit more than he could provide, and they convinced themselves that I was that man.

But was is the key word there, beacause they subsequently still wanted a little more hedge in the glove and righthanded bat areas, and they went out and signed Kevin Pillar, and so now I'm feeling a little bit of the insult that Heredia felt before me. That's kinda sucky.

I'm a Florida Cuban-American, which kind of makes me displacing native Cuban Heredia seem even more awkward. My dad played professionally in Cuba. I'm a former #6 overall draft pick, I have beautiful hair, and in my rookie year, the Cubs won their first World Championship in a million years, so I happen to consider myself a good luck charm.

How's that going to play out in my first year with the Mets? You tell me.

110 G, 270 AB, .277/.308/.381 8HR, 41 RBI

and he will be glad that he doesn't have to wear the Cub logo on his uni.

.270/.310/.430, respectable if not noteworthy. Outplays Pillar by quite a bit.

Fun fact you may or may not come to appreciate as you sleepily read box scores through dyslexic eyes — "Almora, Jr." is an anagram for "Alomar, Jr."

Funny that after so many years of maligning Lagares, the front office(s) has essentially spent the last two offseasons trying to find the new JohnnyLags.

Something like it here, I hope. .260/.300/.420 over 180 PA, with weird, intermittent 6 HR-but-with-three-or-four-in-the-same-fortnight pop.

I'm always impressed by guys with hand-to-head ratios large enough that that they can hold their own batting helmet by palming the dome.

This is not a skill I have ever approached.
