G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Td'A vs JT in the NYM Regret Bowl.I wouldn't totally hate this being the Dodgers' year because it's such a crappy year, they can have it.I wouldn't totally hate this being the Braves' year for pretty much the same reason — plus we survived the Nats winning, can survive the Braves.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 I still haven't survived WSH winning the WS. A local friend recently described their championship as "historic" and I couldn't strangle him because we were more than 6 feet apart.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Briefly reassuring to hear the racist Tomahawk chant spewed by actual Braves fans tonight if just for confirmation of the probably ill-advised presence of actual people at the NLCS.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 This isn't exactly root for the meteor territory but Braves vs Dodgers defies sidetaking.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Rule #1 of late inning / post-season baseball:Never bring in active or former Washington National relieversExhibit A for tonight is LA's use of Blake TreinenHR, 2B, Deep FO, RBI-1B are the results so far in a game that WAS tied at 1 entering the 9th

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 It's almost a cliche that any report of bad shit happening to an athlete off the field contains the phrase "outside a strip club."

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 'Bavk tightness" scratches Clayton Kershaw from today's scheduled start. The Dodgers hope he can pitch in either Game 3 or 4

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Holy shit!I turn off the NL (cuz it was 7-0 Braves,) in favor of the AL only to find that LAD closed it to 8-7 ... and a ground out with the tying run on 3rd ends the game!Game time = 4:12
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Yeah, I also zoomed out at 6-0.Not that I necessarily like them or are rooting for them (even tho I guess I am), but the Braves are completely admirable organization in many ways (and shits in certain ways too). But the way they seem to1) Constantly develop useful and/or star-level MLBers 2) Reliably find the right short-term free agent or free-agent-to-be at the moment they need to 3) restock the key leadership positions knitting long-term to long-term4) seemingly do all this without the strenuousness and drama that would accompany the Mets' efforts to do the very same thingis something to see
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Cody Bellinger is becoming this generation's loathsome Los Angeles "pretty boy" camera pet.I think he only demonstrates enthusiasm when he knows the camera is on him and the mention in another thread of Steve Garvey reminded me of this.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 LA put up an 11 spot (NOT a misprint) in the top of the first.Atlanta has a steep road ahead of them in this one.Later

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 So we were discussing how well the Braves team was put together ...15-1, end of 3rd
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 I know some of you hate the Dodgers and thats ok, but I was a teenager in the late 90's FUCK THE BRAVES! 15-1! HAHAHAHA! SUCK IT LAAAAAAAARY!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Braves pitching in this post-season- the first 64 innings (2 games vs CIN, one 9 innings, the other 13), 3 games vs Marlins, 1 full game vs LAD plus the first 6 innings of Game 2) = 6 Runs Allowed- the next 6 innings: innings 7, 8, 9 Tuesday night then 1, 2 & 3 tonight = 22 runs allowed
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Game 3 is still going on, although the score hasn't changed in a while, sill 15 - 1 as they play the 9thSo we've now got a series at least.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 For the second year in a row, Clayton Kershaw fails in a must-win game. For the second year in a row, Dave Roberts leaves Kershaw in too long (loyalty? stupidity? lack of confidence in his bullpen?) and it hurts his team.If LAD departs in this round, I wonder if the big money owners will make a managerial change.https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=kershcl01&t=p&post=1https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=kershcl01&t=p&post=1

(In fact, I hardly follow the Dodgers at all, beyond the superficial). But firing a manager for not winning a stupid crap-shoot all lucky stupid short playoff series? That'd be like firing a football player for losing the 50 yard-line coin-toss at the beginning of the game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Also not convinced that Kershaw was left in too long.As the 6th started he had allowed 1 run on 4 hits. Acuna led off with an infield chop single ... and then came the two consecutive doubles which ended his night. When was the 'right' time to pull him?-- before the inning started?-- after the first double?-- surely not after the lucky chopperAnd when you consider that the parade of relievers after him pretty much just threw more gas on the fire, one could almost make the case that they'd have been better off taking their chances with leaving him in.If LAD wants to get rid of Robert's for the cumulative failures of the past half-dozen post-seasons that's one thing, but certainly not on last night alone.
