Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Mets trade for "a catcher" from the Orioles, send P prospect Kevin Smith, per radio guys, probably reading twitter
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Robinson Chirinos, who's on the Rangers, is the guy acquired.Kevin Smith to the O's apparently a second deal or a 3-way we don;t have the details from yet.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 36 year old .236 career hitter, so you know it's impactful.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Kevin Smith hasn't done anything this season.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Todd could have been signed as a FA, Chirinos is hitting .119.Castro, the reliever from BAL might be help the bullpen but anyone could:https://www.rotoworld.com/baseball/mlb/player/20378/miguel-castro/statshttps://www.rotoworld.com/baseball/mlb/player/20378/miguel-castro/stats

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Why Frazier? Is JD Davis hurt more than we first thought?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Maybe. Maybe the imbalance of lefties and righties was seen as a problem. My feeling is that when you have a chance to get a Todd, that's a deal you've got to make.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I joke about Smith, but I liked him. If there was a lefthanded Jacob deGrom in the Mets system, Smith was it.I mean, big if, sure. I get that.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 We got cash in the Frazier deal.Cash will be the closer for night's game.I had the same impression about SmithLater

Porcello's from Jersey, too, but he's not exactly OF Jersey, y'know?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Porcello is from Morristown NJ and went Seton Hall Prep in West Orange where he earned an offer from UNC but turned pro instead. Frazier we all know aboutExpecting J.D. Davis to hit the I.L. I guess

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Author Posted August 31, 2020 Far as I can tell the Mets picked up three shitty players, all of whom might still be around next year, for a decent prospect, which I guess makes sense were the goal to lean into shitty.

A real big market team that plays in New York would've competed for Gerrit Cole and never have let Zack Wheeler, who's one of this year's ten best pitchers in the NL, ever get away. The only thing that's stopped me from bitching is that this whole effin' season's one big joke. Thank god the Mets have a pitcher in his prime who's pitching like Sandy Koufax to watch every few days. Pete Alonso is starting to remind me of Joe Charboneau.Steve Cohen can't get here fast enough.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 I'm not about Miguel Castro as a Gerritt Cole booby prize.Whatever he is, the only thing worth comparing him to is whatever the Orioles get out of Smith and PtBNL.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Maybe with real ownership, the Mets sign Wheeler and Stroman, rendering moot, Wacha and Porcello and today's trade. We trade a top prospect for a guy that, in baseball years, is practically AARP eligible, not because of rational, well thought-out decision making, but because our dirtbag owners, knowing that their days are numbered and that they're on the way out, make an emotionally ill-advised last mad dash for baseball glory.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2020 Author Posted September 1, 2020 Yeah I suppose they like what they see in Castro who's relatively young and has some ability but a spotty track record and an aggressively sideways cap.Frazier, as relayed here a million times already is the kind of player I find aesthetically displeasing, with that ugly, leaning over one-handed swing, frequent whiffs and baggy-ass pants. He is a good third baseman but it's all a kind of compromise as he's an old, less exciting version of Davis if a nominal power upgrade on the Gimenez/Guillermo temporary solution. But geez, do we want to go the world series with Todd Frazier?
