I'd say the first C belongs to first names and the second to second names. Both of them would come out for the Chris Capuanos of the world.

But maybe Bucket is on to something, and the second C should only belong to the second capital C in first or last names that have two capital C's. Besides Choo-Choo Coleman, there wouldn't be a lot of deployments. C.C. Sabathia, maybe.

The letters in "Choo Choo Coleman" look compressed, not pleasing to the eye.

The other names are much easier to read. If you're going to be doing a complete set in one font, of the four cards, the Coleman one doesn't get my vote.

This is a very keen observation and I totally agree with you. I've been aware of this issue since I began making these cards and it annoys me as well. I use several formats to display the player's name on this set. Whenever I use that square red box format for the player's name, I often have to compress the player's name to fit it into the square red box. I could fit the name into the box without compressing it by setting the font size to a smaller number, but then the font would be shorter, and I thought that was an even worse option. But compression doesn't work too well with this particular Coca-Cola font because the font is very ornate and intricate and so, I think, the individual letters need some more separation to "breathe".

I could've make the red box bigger, but I tried that, and didn't like that look either.

The other solution is to only use the square red box format with players whose names have fewer characters -- this way, there wouldn't be a need to compress the font. But I've committed the square red box to the "Classic" subset and so Choo Choo's stuck with that box.

He's sad, and so is his wife, Mrs. Coleman.*

* famous Choo Choo story. When asked his wife's name, he said "Mrs. Coleman".

One way of doing it is to reduce the first name size and place the two names on two lines, but right on top of one another.

 Choo-Choo

Coleman

Like-a that, except with the Choo-Choo sitting right on top of the l, and in the script font and such.

Some of these cards tell me what team a guy plaze for, and others do not. That can be frusterating. I have been conditioned to expect a team and a position on a player's card.

These are nits, of course. They're a terrific set. Except the Syndergaard caard. Come on with that.

The uniform'll tell you what team the player plays for.

Here's a few from my all-time favorite baseball card set. There's enough info already there on the cards that I could tell what team Spahn and Vandy and Newhouser play for. See?

This might help: the Syndergaard caard I posted is not a base caard. It's part of a subset within the set.

I'll take a look at your newfangled Choo Choo lettering suggestion soon.

Thanks.

I wonder if future cards are going to be unable to use shots from2020, because of the giveaway maskware.

I guess that's going to be an editorial decision. If it were up to me, I wouldn't shy away from those "mask" photos. They tell a story about an event that will no doubt, go down as one of the most significant episodes in world history. But mask-wearing has become so politicized and so polarizing -controversial-, I'd guess that Topps will avoid them to "play it safe". Too bad Topps is the only game in town these days.

On a related side note, I found it harder than usual to find what I would classify as interesting baseball photos for this year's games. There was no shortage of action shots, but far fewer pre-game shots. I'm sure that this is not a coincidence and likely the result of photographers having less access than usual to the game and the players because of the pandemic. Also, I wonder if only home or local photographers had access to the games.

This was a mild bummer for me, because I prefer the posed-style Topps shots for baseball cards over action shots. The poses are warmer and give a sense of intimacy while the action shots, to me, are repetitive.

I just think Topps and others like to do their best to sell the illusion that the photo was taken yesterday, and the guy on the card could be the exact same guy out on the field right now. In future years (hopefully) the mask or gator will tell the cardbuying pre-teen that this shot is old and the publisher is cheap.

That can't possibly be Hansel Robles

I spent more time vetting that photo than any other in the set. I had some doubts at first because Robles's skin appears noticeably darker than that of the player in "the photo". But then I found many pics of Robles where his skin is lighter, more in line with "the photo". I guess that's the lighting accounting for noticeable differences in skin shade.

The photo comes up on a google image search for Hansel Robles. That's not necessarily a clincher: an image search of Bud Harrelson, for example, will yield photos of Pete Rose from his Expos days. But when you run a google image search, there's an option to click on the link to the original article from which the photo came from. That often helps -- it gives the photo some context. Here's the article that's the web source for that photo:

https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/07/22/los-angeles-angels-roster-and-schedule-2020/https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2020/07/22/los-angeles-angels-roster-and-schedule-2020/

It's a preview of the Angels 2020 baseball roster with that photo as the lead or headline photo and, in fact, the only photo in the piece. With that specific article, you'd figure there'd be a picture of Mike Trout if there was going to be just one photo. But it turns out that Robles was the Angels best pitcher in 2019 and one of its best players overall. Robles was third in WAR on the 2019 Angels despite being a reliever and led all 2019 Angels pitchers in ERA+, WHIP and WAR. So Robles was a logical choice to represent the Angels by photo in that piece.

Plus, that might be my favorite photo in the whole set. I should've cropped it even more to emphasize the mask. I'm going with Robles.

Dear Typewriter Chewing Gum,

Will there be a Diet Coke subset?

Signed,

Johnny Fuckerfaster

We appreciate your interest in our Diet Coke style cards and hope that you continue to enjoy all of our cards, now and in the future. Unfortunately, we have no plans for a Diet Coke subset at the moment, but Typewriter Chewing Gum will be releasing another Mets card set based on the 2020 baseball season very soon. It will be a limited set, instead of a total set, meaning that not every Met will be featured in that set. Look for it.

P.S. Are you related to Joe Fonebone?

Typewriter Chewing Gum announces the release of an exciting new (limited) 2020 Mets set. We've got a new sponsor, too. Watch this space for our latest -- code name: You live, we give.

Dear Typewriter Chewing Gum Co.,

I like the presentation of the names in the new subset, not sure I like the the borders but can you turn these cards over so I can see the back. Also, do these cards scale to standard BB card sizes?

Signed,

Roger Kaputnik

Yeah, I was wondering if those eliptical borders had a precedent from an established Pepsi design I'm not familiar with.
