Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Here's a question I don't know the answer to:What baseball team do folks in Indianapolis root for? (when they're not watching college hoops and auto racing?)It's probably closest to Cincy, I definitely get a Cardinals vibe in Southern Indiana, it's a longstanding Indians farm city and the Cubs have sonme proximity and probably the greatest magnetic attraction. So what's the answer? And what other cities in the US can you think of with undefined rooting interests?By the way this came from an actual question I asked of an Indianapolis based businessman. He said, nobody around here cares about baseball. But Indy's a pretty big city
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 David Letterman is from Indianapolis and he grew up rooting for the Reds. But I have a friend from Indiana who's a Cubs fan.And that's all I know about it.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Looks like it's Chicago/Cincinnati territory which probably means some variety of those games were on TV. Cubs were always on WGN practically nationwide right? so might skew that way.....if you're above 30 or so. Nowadays, you'd probably be LESS likely to root for those teams, as you're blacked out from streaming them.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Their Triple A team is the Indianapolis Indians who you would think would be a Cleveland affiliate but they are a Pirates farm team. So maybe some Indianapolins are Bucs fans.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Looks like Cubs in the north, Reds in the south and west, and a little bit of Cardinals in the southeast.https://cartocdn-gusc-b.global.ssl.fastly.net/naterattner/api/v1/map/naterattner@662a1411@62c7fc536942815655e208f60c6f4a17:1552774723247/1,2/4/4/5.png>https://cartocdn-gusc-c.global.ssl.fastly.net/naterattner/api/v1/map/naterattner@662a1411@62c7fc536942815655e208f60c6f4a17:1552774723247/1,2/4/4/6.png>https://seatgeek.com/tba/articles/where-do-mlb-fans-live-mapping-baseball-fandom-across-the-u-s/https://seatgeek.com/tba/articles/where-do-mlb-fans-live-mapping-baseball-fandom-across-the-u-s/
