Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 I am at a vintage knickknack shop in Ellicott city Maryland, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, put Russian nesting dolls featuring the New York Mets circa 2004. Yes, is that murderers row: Mike Piazza Roger Cedeno Danny Garcia Timo Perez Heath Bell. They are made in Russia, where everybody knows, the 2004 Mets never go out of style. They can be yours for $23 firm plus whatever shipping will cost me. Let me know. Photos to follow if I can execute.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 What the heck. Just go view them at the crane pool Facebook page.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Those were a thing 15 or 20 years ago. Here's an all Piazza nesting doll set.[FIMG=444]https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/yvIAAOSw~IFbt7jw/s-l300.jpg[/FIMG]Here's another:[FIMG=444]https://i.etsystatic.com/15058766/r/il/2d1e2c/1509311884/il_1588xN.1509311884_qm6s.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=444]https://i.etsystatic.com/15058766/r/il/bc7c39/1556778507/il_794xN.1556778507_m68w.jpg[/FIMG]I have one of those and it's right near my desk so I can grab it pretty easily without moving too much.In my set, the nesting Mets are in home pinstripes -- not the black uniform pinstripes with the 3D black --- and they are -- from biggest to smallest:Mike PiazzaJohn OlerudTodd HundleyManny Alexander(yes! - Manny Alexander)andRickey Hendersonan historically imposible set at least in the sense that those five Mets never, collectively, played together on the Mets as teammates. What uniforms are your Endicott Mets wearing?
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Danny Garcia. Danny Garcia. Trying my best to remember a Danny Garcia thing.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Weren't the Russian nesting dolls a thing here a few years ago and liketwo decades ago on the mofo too?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Danny Garcia was like TJ Rivera. New York area undrafted guy who Rose to the majors on the strength of a decent bat. Garcia was more of a pure infielder than TJ and more of a singles hitter. Iirc, they gave him #12 about 5 minutes after trading Alomar.A few years ago I was at the batting cages in Ridgewood with Lunchpail and Danny Garcia was giving hitting lessons. His hourly rate was more than I'd part with tho.Edit: that batting cage guy wasn't Garcia but Kevin Baez.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 That's an outstanding price
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 The name "Manny Alexander" is barely familiar to me. I can remember obscure Mets from the distant past, like Lute Barnes, but the more recent guys come and go in a blur.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 It killed me trying to figure out who "Garcia" was. I had "Karim" in my head like an earworm and I couldn't come up with anybody else, but I was pretty sure Karim didn't wear 12, so I pulled out my phone to dig up MbtN, and AHA! it was Danny.I just love the thought of a Russian craft artist in Novosibirsk or Omsk hand-painting a face and turning to his or her friend, "Hey, Konstantin! Does this look like Danny Garcia?"
