On one hand, the Braves respect the wishes and comments of the Cardinals' pitcher of Native American heritage so they won't do the Tomahawk Chop while he is in the game. OTOH, they don't respect it enough to refrain from doing it the rest of the time.

Odds that the Atlanta fans do it anyway even if not prompted by the video board?

HOE! LEE! SHIT!

Joining this one via tape delay about a half-hour late ... and let's just say that was a less than optimal start for the home team.

You know it's not your day when ...

- the other team makes defensive substitutions in the bottom of the 1st !!

- the opposing pitcher not only bats in the 1st inning but in the 2nd also [0 for 1 plus a bases-loaded walk]

- their leadoff guy is batting for a third time in the top of the 2nd

The Cards have hit two infield grounders with runners on base in potential GiDP situations -- both by Yadier!! -- and yet the Braves have turned those into ZERO outs.

One error by Freddie, one by Acuna.

- You're on your fourth pitcher in the third inning

- the other team's pitcher (#9 slot) is batting for the third time before your #9 slot comes to the plate even once

13-0, bottom 3

This whole series has been about failures of the other team

And that's what's made it my favorite of these first-rounders, by far. This is exactly how the 2009 WS should have gone. #quiethomecrowds

Freddy F'n Freeman is hitting .158 for the series.

I hope someone in the Mets organization is recording how the Cards are pitching to him.

Later

OE: burn the tape.

FFF has actually had a rough run of it since about September 1st (possibly due to an elbow problem); he had just 5 XBHs all month and only two singles in 10 ABs in the final series vs the Mets

So I don't think it's a matter of discovering how to pitch to him as much as it's catching him when he's off.

The game this one most reminds me of was one that the Cards were on the opposite side of: the Royals 11-0 win to close out the '85 World Series

Saberhagen went all the way on a 5-hitter while StL went through seven pitchers including John Tudor stinking up the start [5 ER in 2.1 IP] and Joaquin Andujar getting tossed out of the game

following an on-field meltdown over a 'Ball 4' call while relieving in the 5th

The Cardinals were still peeved about the Denkinger call the game before. I was on their side at that point; it was monstrous. But they lost my sympathy completely with that petulant bullshit in game 7. And they've never gotten it back.
