The Cy guys are at it: deGrom vs. Ryu. Let's help Jake win something. Coupla somethings, actually.

Rosario SS

Davis LF

McNeil RF

Alonso 1B

Ramos C

Cano 2B

Frazier 3B

Lagares CF

deGrom P

Pete's struggling a little.

They start Lagares to cover center because analytics suggest that anybody who puts it in play against deGrom does it in the air, and everybody's pounding it into the ground.

Lugo should be the closer next year.

I'm not sure why all the Mets' lefthanded batters got days off against these two All-Star portsiders the Dodgers have ... except Canó.

I'm also unsure why they aren't running for Frazee Fantazee here. They have a surfeit of infielders, and he's going to be taken out as soon as that hand swells up anyhow.

Not PH'ing Conforto for Lagares is an impeachable offense. This goes to what I've said about Mickey not doing anything to help the team win via his moves.

However, Rajai comes through!

If he PH's Conforto there it sets up two straight LHBs (Conforto then Nimmo) and Roberts simply goes to Urias a batter earlier.

Still a debatable (non) move, but I understand his thinking.

oe: and of course it would weaken the defense.

Valid, but I don't think that Mickey thinks as thoroughly as you do. He might have wanted Juan's glove to stay around.

So we've now gone 5-1 since I said we'd need to go no worse than 16-4, leaving an 11-3 path in front of us.

That's only a slightly smaller winning pct than 16-4 but LAD games represent now only 1/14 of the remainder (rather than 3/20 or 15%) while Marlin games (I know) jump to 4/14 or 28.5% (up from 20%)

Still might not matter if the teams in front of us win a few of their own (Cubs won again today, Brewers are winning) but all they can do is take care of our end and, for a week now, they've been doing just that.

Anybody else briefly worry that Nimmo was going to get called back after his HbP, as he did twice last season, for not doing enough to dodge the pitch?

The two times Brandon got flagged for that last year were more a case of purposely and pretty obviously moving into the pitch rather than simply not doing enough to get out of the way.

One, IIRC, was pretty damn blatant; the other one less so but still a lot more than last night.

I think it's a move that players get away with too often -- particularly in the elbow pad era -- and wouldn't mind seeing umps call it more, but even then I didn't think last night's qualified.
