G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 The Cy guys are at it: deGrom vs. Ryu. Let's help Jake win something. Coupla somethings, actually.Rosario SSDavis LFMcNeil RFAlonso 1BRamos CCano 2BFrazier 3BLagares CFdeGrom P
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Scoreless after one, a touch of mist in the Flushing air, per Howie.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Ryu looks like he's wearing one of Jonathan Broxton's old uniforms.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I was looking for Burt Sugarman behind home plate, and then I realized I was watching a Mets home game.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Pete's struggling a little.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Jake's got a pitch count that should allow him to get at least into the 8th tonight.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Lotta pitching tonight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 They start Lagares to cover center because analytics suggest that anybody who puts it in play against deGrom does it in the air, and everybody's pounding it into the ground.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 And deGrom ends his day after 101 pitches. It makes me feel very gruff. There's a playoff race going on, here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Now let's go pound us some Dodger relievin'
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Lugo should be the closer next year.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I'm not sure why all the Mets' lefthanded batters got days off against these two All-Star portsiders the Dodgers have ... except Canó.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I'm also unsure why they aren't running for Frazee Fantazee here. They have a surfeit of infielders, and he's going to be taken out as soon as that hand swells up anyhow.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 NOW Haggerty comes in to run.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I'm not sure I wouldn't have sent up Rivera or Conforto here.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 It's not quite on a par with his WS HR, but it's a close second for me.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Not PH'ing Conforto for Lagares is an impeachable offense. This goes to what I've said about Mickey not doing anything to help the team win via his moves. However, Rajai comes through!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) If he PH's Conforto there it sets up two straight LHBs (Conforto then Nimmo) and Roberts simply goes to Urias a batter earlier.Still a debatable (non) move, but I understand his thinking.oe: and of course it would weaken the defense. He might have wanted Juan's glove to stay around.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I was just adding my postscript as you replied.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 . Mets can't be killed. Hello from Vegas
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 So we've now gone 5-1 since I said we'd need to go no worse than 16-4, leaving an 11-3 path in front of us.That's only a slightly smaller winning pct than 16-4 but LAD games represent now only 1/14 of the remainder (rather than 3/20 or 15%) while Marlin games (I know) jump to 4/14 or 28.5% (up from 20%)Still might not matter if the teams in front of us win a few of their own (Cubs won again today, Brewers are winning) but all they can do is take care of our end and, for a week now, they've been doing just that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Anybody else briefly worry that Nimmo was going to get called back after his HbP, as he did twice last season, for not doing enough to dodge the pitch?

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 Those two HBPs in the 8th contributed to not just a Mets win but Mets history, the kind you can http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/15/take-two-for-the-team/read about here.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Good read. Ron Hunt and Kevin McReynolds in the same piece. Yeah!
